you sounded like you ran out of midol. ;)

How much better did you feel after doing the 9 miler on Sunday? Even after you found out you couldn't blame your improved health on the Dayquil you forgot to take.....

we needed to get on the road and we had no idea that lil wild horse wash would be such an epic waste of effort, so no worries. We now know the area a bit so we can go back and explore further one day.

Kurt, have you read about the Muddy Creek Narrows hike? It's about 12 miles of river hiking. We could camp down by hidden splendor, then shuttle up to the top (which is by the other mines you posted in this thread) and hike back to camp. Probably have to do it in late summer/early fall because I'm just about to the point where I have more trips than weekends between now and end of June.

What, are you doing 90 on the Racetrack?

No, but I hit 75 mph going accross some of those flats.

We made pretty good time all in all, we went from N. Fork Coal wash, through Devils Race Track and all the way to Hidden Splendor in 4 hours. That includes a couple map checks and about a dozen stops to pick up empty Busch Lite and Dr. K cans among other trash.

i think he was referencing towards the difference in displacement between a 4.0 and a 1.3 :p

I'll try to steal sideshow Bob's 80 for this trip... ;)

That and I'm considering upgrading to something in the 5.2L area.

Saw him at Maverick last night filling gas cans.......honk honk

Not that particular one, is it in the Kelsey book? I know he has a couple of Muddy Creek hikes listed, but I don't have

EDIT: Its called the Chute of Muddy Creek... he lists it as 25 kilos (don't get me started on his nonmenclature), which is 15.5 miles. 8-10 hours at his rate, which means 12+ at a nominal rate, 15+ for Brett :D I've wanted to do that for a long time as the Little Susan mines and some Google Earth roads are on the opposite side of the Muddy. They show a ford at the south end of Tomsich Butte, though its not on the new travel plan of course (and some of the road & mines are in the Muddy Creek WSA ). It would be fun to kayak this year

It's about the same as the 4.0....maybe a tad better on milage. Offroad i get a little better than the 4.0. To be fair thats comparing a relatively high mile ZJ 4.0 to pretty low mile ZJ 5.2....but same size tire and gearing. Brett did a little better than me in his XJ.

I got 16.2 mpg from SLC to Ferron but we were pushing it a little hard. There are worse.

The 23 gallon tank does suck to fill up for 3.69 per gallon. But it would have sucked to put 32 gallons in my dodge at 4.39 (diesel in hanksville).

Yes, we hiked Little Wild Horse and Bell canyons. We were told with the traffic it would take 6 hours. We did it in 3h 15m. Pretty good time I think. I want to go down and do Ding/Dang and Quandry canyons this year sometime...and maybe spend a night down by Hidden Splendor and hike up to the old mines.

Ding and Dang is a great hike, less crowded than Wild Horse/Bell and a little more challenging. I'll be down there for a few days this weekend.

Well, quit hanging out at DB, PSH and Pritchett and you would be surprised how much solitude one can have during EJS ;) Though nothing like the peace of the Swell :( We ran Dome Plateau on Big Saturday, passed mabey 2 rigs and a handful of quads all day :greg: And had beer cheese soup upon return.

More pics!!!

You know me.

If memory serves, we ran Hey Joe one year and 7 Mile the next, so you may remember I'm not particularly inclined to associate with the riff raff
