If you are in Moab and end up in a bit of trouble ... stop in here.

Feb 3rd, U4WDA convention, friday night, our friend breaks a main leaf coming out of Golden Rim. These guys meet him at 7:30am sat., have a leaf, and fix it. Charging 1/2 hour labor and having him ready for the days runs. I don't remember the charge on the leaf, but it was cheap.

Last Friday, we walk in looking to borrow or buy a ball joint press. They take us through their shop (some real impressive custom work going on in there) to their DOM supply out back. They set us up with two pieces of different sized DOM and tips on their experience of removing and reseating the new joints. No charge. Very nice guys, obviously dedicated to this sport and out to help and be a part of the wheeling community, not simply profit from it.

Highly recommend this shop!

they need a 24 hour emergency hotline.

when we where broke down on the trail and couldnt go anywhere, everybody we talked to told us to get ahold of the outpost, but we couldnt get ahold of anybody on a sunday to help us. i guess they have been known to do emergency trail rescue/repairs. i am not sure what it would have cost me but it probably would have been better than the tow bill.

I think Chris will be a customer for life after that.

ya, after pulling the brakes and bearing, everything else fell to the ground  We beat on those joints with a HF 5 pound hammer and other tools at hand ... would not budge! So loaded up 4 people for a head banging ride out and headed for town to find some new ball joints ... he busted it on the crack, so it was as long ride out!

We bought one of those little butane torches to help expand the metal, but really just needed those right lengthen/sized DOM pieces to extract them. Oh yea, and so far, a bottle jack rules over that handyman. It was essential in getting them both out and back in. If we did not have that torch, we might not have gotten the bottom castle nut off (think vice grips on that shinny, slick as snot ball). With the nut heated, it came right off.

Getting the top one back in was harder than crap. We hammered ourselves silly. Getting some tension with the bottle jack took some of the spring out of it and helped. I need a bit of emery cloth in my kit. I think it needed touched up a bit before we got it started.

It was a lot like work. I hope I never have to do a trail ball joint repair again!

He was very cool to me that day (Feb 3rd). He gave me his personal cell phone number and only charged $40 (IIRC) for a set of XJ leafs.

We went to dinner after the thing broke, and after leaving the restaurant, we were on our way back to town to hit Checker. While passing the Outpost, I saw his truck in the parking lot and after seeing that Checker was closed, I hauled butt back down and talked with him. He told me to have my friends rig down first thing in the am and that he would take care of it. I think all in all my friend was out like $65 (springs and labor) - plus he got to finish the trail rides over the weekend - priceless!!

Even though I have my own shop and etc and blah blah.. But if I'm ever in the area and need ANYTHING, Outpost I will go! It's guys like that that make this sport enjoyable!! ..See, there are good shops out there still! :)

The Outpost rules!! And Steve (the owner) is who makes it all so good.

I ordered a chromoly shaft through them, and found out it was on backorder and I needed it by Friday so I could gun at Winter Convention. Steve had them overnight it, at their expense, and I had it by Friday. Long story short, it wasn't the right length, so he came to my house Friday night at 9ish to see what was wrong, he then went over to the shop to see if they had anything that I could use (that's why he was at the shop Friday night). He then came back to my house to tell me he didn't have anything that would work, but that he felt bad, so why didn't I just take his personal Jeep !! So after some convincing I agreed, and I met him at the shop at 7am Saturday (which is why he was at the shop then). Most shops would have said, sucks to be you, but not Steve, he lets me drive his Jeep knowing I'm going to go do Minor Threat and Greenday!!

So like I said, Steve rules!!!!!!!!!!

I had one experience with them when I broke a u-joint on my front axle. They had the part I needed, and charged me a very reasonable price. Definately a bunch of great people! They will get my business whenever possible.

Yep, During one of the Moab Rocks comps Steve offered his buggy when mine broke before the comp started. He's definitely one of a kind. I was real glad when he moved back from Phoenix.

I may as well chime in. They helped us with a couple odds and ends during EJS last year. Great shop! That's the first place I'll be if I need help in Moab...

I just hope they make enough money to stay in business.

They bailed me and my friends out on several occasions. Excellent service.
