I knew we have talked about them before, but....
I know there are a some of you in the graphics field and you need/know good color. What do you use/want??
I need a monitor for to go with the uber cool comp I am building. I am not worried about space but price is always a concern. My main concern is sharpness and color for photo work. 19"-21" probably wide screen. I'd like to stay near $200, but know I will be more likely $300+. All the ones that the photo sights reccomend are $700-$1500:eek: Yea, right! 98% of my work goes to mags, net, or newsprint etc, so THAT critical of color is not need, or affordable.
I have read that the good CRT screens are no longer being made, so I am stuck with LCD....

So Caleb, Herzog, Joe, others, what do you use, what to you suggest?
I hear good things about the better dells and Viewsonics.

We've been buying the Dell 20" widescreen LCD. They've been just over $300-350 depending on when we've bought them. The specs EXACTLY compare to the Apple Cinema line for about 3 times the price.

2007WFP Wide-Screen Black Flat Panel Monitor, LCD with Height Adjustable Stand
Usually Ships Within 24 Hours
Manufacturer Part# HF730
Dell Part# 320-4688
Max Resolution: 1680 x 1050 / 60 Hz
Image Contrast Ratio: 800:1

Our Mac folk even admit they like them.

E207WFP 20-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor
Usually Ships 1-2 Days
Manufacturer Part# CK630
Dell Part# 320-5123
Max Resolution: 1680 x 1050 / 60 Hz
Image Contrast Ratio: 800:1

That one lists for currently $219, but I have NO idea why it's that much cheaper than the 2007WFP

They do still make good CRT's you just have to mail order them. Widescreens are bitchn, but any motion anything just irritates me on LCD's. Picture stuff like you'll be doing an LCD will work great for you, but if you do a lot of video they suck. CRT's are better in every respect except energy use, weight, footprint and heat production.

But it's nearly impossible to get a CRT larger than 17" locally. When my 19" monitor recently died I decided to just do whatever I had to do to get by until SED's come out.

btw, that $35 21" roxors :p

If you're doing graphics for print, you need to find a CMYK calibrated monitor, or a device to do the CMYK calibration.

I just picked a LG LCD a couple weeks ago and I've been nothing but happy with it. Bright, great color, no problems with video on it at all. In fact, as far as I can tell, video's look the same if not better than my previous CRT. Here's the specs and link to what I got.
http://us.lge.com/products/model/detail/computer products_lcd monitors_wide screen_L226WT-BF.jhtml

•1680x1050 Native Resolution
•3000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
•BRIGHTNESS 300 nits
•2ms Ultra-Fast Response Time
•DVI Input with HDCP

I'm using DVI on it and that helped even more compared to when I had it hooked to D-sub.

Go buy it Marc ;)

Got a 19" Dell Flat here at work. Looks great. I'm going to hook my laptop to my 42" LG Plasma and see how that looks.
