My 2002 Ford F-250 PowerStroke

Well many know I traded my beloved 4runner for this truck a couple months back. Reason for that is I am building a Buggy, so I would have needed a tow rig sooner or later. Needless to say we struck a deal, and the 4runner now lives in California, and I got this.

2002 F250
Strong running 7.3L PowerStroke (238K) still about 100000 less than my 4runner had on it!
Cold Air Intake
Automatic Trans
Camper Edition (heavier duty springs, and the camper brackets)
315/75R16 BFG KM2s
aluminum wheels

This is an awesome truck, has a couple dings and dents on the hood and tailgate, but a good clean truck overall. I got it from the original owner that bought it new in California. It has a 4" exhaust from the turbo back, it doesnt even have a cat which I was surprised about being from the communist world that is California. I just told it has a chip on it, but I am not sure on that.

The day I got it after meeting him in Winnimucca with the 4runner:

I sold the shell, and gave it a good cleaning inside and out. I added some LED lights from Low Range, and Williams Offroad Lighting.

On Saturday of last week, I dismounted the tires/wheels, and painted the wheels, and switched the tires around to be all black. Look much better IMO:

Already have new lug nuts too

I want to get some different wheels and tires eventually, but these look a LOT better than they used too. I plan on doing a new hood, tailgate, and headlights/taillights in the future, but not until after the buggy is done.

**Questions**

Does any other fellow Powerstroke owners have some good links to cheap and easy performance upgrades?

Does anybody know the bulb numbers on ALL the dash illumination bulbs?

you can do a diy intake google 6637 intake. If you want to chip it stick with one of the custom tuners. PHP, Gearhead,DP,Beans. Stay away from edge(has a rep of trashing autos) hypertech, superchips.

DP Tuner is IMHO the best Superduty tuner out there. I loved it in my Excursion. The thing flat out hauled ass compared to stock and is night and day when towing. He can setup the tow tunes to lock up the torque converter so it will lock up under 40mph. Otherwise the tranny is tuned to not lockup under 40mph which = heat.

Make sure you have new glow plugs and only use Motorcraft ZD-11 glow plugs.

Lastly, if you don't have gauges, get them.

EGTs, tranny temp, and boost.

The glow shift ones are the cheapest and I have run several sets. Only issue I have ever had with them is I had the EGT probe go bad in one.

The last few Strokers that I have had a hand on modifying I have used SCT tuners. More specifically the SCT CTS. The color touch screen has gauges, and you can set up de fuel levels to prevent you from hurting the truck. Check them out and see if they have a tuner that fits your needs.

There are tons of options for your truck. Some maybe better than others but, most are good. The diesel stop is a great place to do some reading and learning.

10k mod is very cheap (less than a dollar usually for a resistor,) very easy (~10 minute install,) and gets you a few extra ponies (20-30?) if you don't want to spend the $$$ on a tuner yet... Just search for "10k mod" on any of the diesel sites.

Cool thanks for the info guys!

Just got back from Moab towing a crawler and trailer, did very well! I do eventually plan on doing some upgrades and such to the truck, and will start doing some research on what performance mods I can do. I also plan on getting some gauges for it as well. On long pulls, I let the truck run for a while to cool the turbo anyway, just for extra assurance.

Tymar performance for the intake. Dale is a great guy and full of information on theese trucks. He also has awesome pricing for custom tunes.

Just do the 6637 filter and a 45* 4" exhaust pipe piece. Simple and only about $50 total.

This filter:

I just ditched that set up for an Airaid Stage 2. (I've been running the 6637 since '08 or so)

Amazing difference.

Dropped EGT's by 150-200*, gave me half my throttle back when towing. I used to spend all my time backing out of the throttle. Now pulling hills in OD with two jeeps on my trailer. Oh ya, plus DPTuner.

Haven't done the Zoodad...I want to test a before/after to see if it really helps.

Curious if that was the original 6637 filter from 08'? While the K&N type filters allow more flow, they also allow a lot more dust through them. I've seen my fair share of dusted turbos due to a K&N type of filter. They work over the compressor wheels in short order.

Haha, no, not the same EXACT one. I swapped it out probably more often than I needed to. It flowed a lot more than the oem, but it was hot under-hood air.
