Okay, I did a bit of work on my rack. Now my cargo box fits and I have a place to stick my shovel and axe. Stage 1 is complete. The next stage will include flooring and lowering it about an 1/4" off the top of the roof. That way I can park it in the garage with the roof rack still on.

Pictures!

Cut out the front supports for the tubing.

Sorry its a little hazy in there from the welding. I then welded the tubes back together with some plate.

Then I added some plate and built a piece to clamp the shovel and ax to the rack.

All Done. I'll put it on the Rover on Monday.

Anyway. Christmas present is installed. Lowered it about 3/4" all around. Now it sits about 1/4" off the roof at the back. Hope I can get out of the garage. otherwise I'll have to deflate the tires.

So to get the factory roof rails off I had to take a part the whole interior. Not a lot of run. The middle set of bolts holding it on really sucked because of the rear air conditioning vents in the roof.

its really not as bad as it seems. It only took me 1 hour to get it to that stage. and then about 30 minutes to get the roof rails off. It took me about an hour to get it all back together. but I know how these things are built and how to take it apart without breaking everything. they are really pretty simple to work on.

OCD moment. This rust has been bothering me since I bought this disco. Finally got out the grinder and cleaned up both sides of the rear frame.

Before. UGLY! I hate rust.

Stripped the rust off with a wire wheel on my grinder.

Some Hammered Paint over rust converter paint that becomes a primer or something. I feel so much better inside.

I have a fair amount of oil leaking on the driveway and the garage floor. Decided it was time to do something about it. So I ordered a new front main seal, valve cover gaskets and an oil pan gasket. Not knowing exactly where it was coming from.

So I decided to start on the top side. I'm still waiting on the Oil Pan gasket. The seller on Amazon must have shipped it by some dude walking from Texas to Utah. Its been 10 days since I ordered it. That and lying on the ground in a pool of oil didn't sound like fun last night.

I think I found my leak!

Top side is a damn mess. I don't know how many times I've pressure washed it.

The valve covers had about an inch of oil on them. I ran down to the local car wash and washed them off.

Then started painting them.

I bought some new rear shocks finally. I thought I'd give these a try. They get pretty good reviews, they are supposed to be as good as Old Man Emu shocks for half the cost. So we shall see how they do. Anything has to be better then the stock shocks. I bounce around like a pogo stick if I go over a large bump.
