I'm going to try to change out the front main seal today. Then its off to Moab on Thursday for 4 days of fun! Its probably going to be really hot, glad my AC works. ha ha
Just got back from another trip to Moab. I rescued a poor broken down Jeep Cherokee off of Top of the World. All of his Jeep buddies left him sitting there. No one else would drag his HEEP back down for him. No pictures, because I didn't want to embarrass the poor guy.
I got a TJM bumper for a Disco 1. It didn't fit like I liked, and it was bent to hell from the previous owners, but it was a good base to start with. This is what I got done tonight. I should have taken a picture of the bumper before I cut it up, but oh well. Plans are to get this thing fitting as close to the body as possible, then trim the rear of the body for extra clearance. I'll also build a swing out tire carrier with jerry can holders. I really don't like jerry cans on my roof rack. I may even add a cooler holder/platform thingamajig.
Took the old busted stock bumper off to see what I had to work with. The brackets for the TJM bumper didn't line up with much on the back of the frame. After pondering the situation for a bit, I broke out the grinder and a cut off wheel.
This is post cut, and starting to work on the bumper mounts.
Working on adding some strength to the bumper mounts and welding them to the frame. The bumper will use the original bolt holes to mount to the modified bumper brackets. I plan on adding some more gussets to run down the frame from the bottom of the mount.
And then I welded the sides back on for now. I'll cut these up as well to fit flush to the body. Then I'll have to find some new D1 rear lights.
Sorry about the instagram pictures. They kind of suck this time. I've got a lot of work to do to it. Its been kind of fun re-building it so far. I'll try to get some more done this week.
Finally got back to working on my Disco tonight. I've been meaning to finish up the bumper. So I filled in the brake light holes and cleaned it up a little more. Now that its cleaned up enough, I'm going to add some lighting to it, and then build a jerry can holder off the back of it.
Also a picture of my sickness. I have two land rovers now. The white one is one I've always wanted. 1993 RRC Long Wheel Base. Its all stock with a 4.2L V8 and 245/75/16 tires. Needs a little 2" lift to be perfect.
