I got a TJM bumper for a Disco 1. It didn't fit like I liked, and it was bent to hell from the previous owners, but it was a good base to start with. This is what I got done tonight. I should have taken a picture of the bumper before I cut it up, but oh well. Plans are to get this thing fitting as close to the body as possible, then trim the rear of the body for extra clearance. I'll also build a swing out tire carrier with jerry can holders. I really don't like jerry cans on my roof rack. I may even add a cooler holder/platform thingamajig.
Took the old busted stock bumper off to see what I had to work with. The brackets for the TJM bumper didn't line up with much on the back of the frame. After pondering the situation for a bit, I broke out the grinder and a cut off wheel.
This is post cut, and starting to work on the bumper mounts.
Working on adding some strength to the bumper mounts and welding them to the frame. The bumper will use the original bolt holes to mount to the modified bumper brackets. I plan on adding some more gussets to run down the frame from the bottom of the mount.
And then I welded the sides back on for now. I'll cut these up as well to fit flush to the body. Then I'll have to find some new D1 rear lights.
