My new Tundra

So after selling my 4Runner I decided I needed to remain in a truck but I still had to have spacious back seats. Carrying around loads on occasions made me realize how useful having a truck really is but I couldnt sacrifice the back seats at all. My little Si had enough room in the back but having to have people crawl in thru the passenger side all the time can suck so 4 doors became a requirement....

In comes the Tundra, I really LOVE how they look lifted with 35's and fender flares, or as I call them....bro'd out. So I went to check them out this week at the dealership, test drove them and I had to have one. So I looked around and they found me one that I liked, we talked some numbers and I brought it home!

I dont plan to take it wheeling much, if at all. I dont wanna beat up the pretty body, plus being full size I dont know how well I will squeeze into tight spots but I'll still hit up some dirt roads in the canyons and load it up to go camping and fishing. So far I really love it and I dont mind the gas mileage at all hahaha.

For the time being I plan on installing a 3/1 leveling kit which I should have done within the next month or so. Later putting some 35's on there with some aftermarket wheels as well but that will come towards the end of the year if not later because that's easily in the $2500 range. Later install some TRD goodies also including the TRD S/C and I did specifically request for a non-flexfuel version in order to install the supercharger. After that I think I will be pretty happy with it for a while.

So here is my 2013 TRD Tundra!

Awesome! I have a white 2010 TRD Crewmax and I love it. If you will be spending a good amount of time offroad, I wouldn't recommend the 3/1 kit. Even though the one from LowRange is popular, I've heard that offroad performance is severely lacking. I would recommend you speak with Kurt and get the OME lift kit. A lot of guys end up "upgrading" to OME after running the cheaper 3/1 for awhile. With OME you can fit 295/70/18 A/T or M/T, which is basically a 35. Also, there is a guy in SLC that designs parts for the Tundra that are VERY high quality. Extended shackles for the rear, polyurethane bushings for the springs, front shims (sometimes the drivers side is about .5"-1" lower than passenger's side) to level the truck (and even raise it a bit), and he custom fabs roof racks for the Tundra as well. Great guy, and local! I can give you his contact information or if you go to the website below, his screen name is Coachbuilder1.

I have the OME 2.5" lift (actually ended up with almost 3.5" of lift) and 295/70/18 Nitto Trail Grapplers. I took it on Hell's Revenge this past Spring and was surprised at how well it did. My sliders and aftermarket bumpers got used quite a bit since the truck is so long, but that's why I put them on! The ATRAC in 4Lo is quite impressive - there was only 1 obstacle over 3 days that took a couple of bumps to get over.

If you have any questions, let me know! And hey, we should start a Utah Tundra club!

Here's a popular Tundra website with lots of good info:

Nice man thanks for all the information there. Do you have any pictures of your Tundra with the lift? I had looked at OME also but I hadnt really given it too much though, did you go with the light or heavy spring for yours? Only things I was wondering about the OME is how the ride quality will change but I doubt it would be bad. I'm comfortable with the factory ride just want it up a bit more lol.

How was your mileage affected after the lift and tires?

I'm guessing its some form of upgrade since I've seen others with the split window. But looking thru my add-ons I didn't see one that pointed out the rolling rear window. But most that I've seen have it so I'm guessing just the bare bones models might be the ones that have split windows.

Looks just like the truck my brother was GIVEN by the company he worked for. He quit there like two weeks after they give it to him! :D I bet you'd love it even more if you didn't have to pay for it, like he did.

The sliding down window is only on the crew max. The split window is on the double cabs. Roll down is not available on the double cabs. I asked when I bought my '13. So I got the crew max instead.

Yep, this.

Nice truck. I loved my Crew Max. It is a big truck for daily driving though when you have to park in a tight parking garage. I towed a 10K pound camp trailer with mine even with a lift and 35s. Did fantastic!

It is quite large to park it in my garage, especially with a touareg in the other half and tools and toys down the sides. But I make it happen. The parking sonar and back up camera make it a whole lot easier than my 06 tundra.

Little 1/2" circles on your bumpers. When you're getting close to things it beeps. Gets faster until its a solid tone when you're real close. Lets me get within an inch or 2 of things. The rear camera saves me a lot of time hooking my trailer up everyday.

I have the backup camera but I don't know about the sonar. I'll have to take a look or get close to something to see if it beeps, but so far I've not heard anything within 2 ft range.

It is an option, limited will have it and a fully loaded SR5 will have it. You'll have a sonar button on your dash if you do have it. You'll also have little black buttons (the sensors) on your bumper (you can see them on mine in this pic)

Ah yeah, must not have it then, because I dont have the little black buttons on my bumper. But the camera is pretty damn good as it is though. Helps me back up close into areas without worrying about being too close.

Here's a picture after I got the front OME installed and the new tires and rims. I went with the "Medium" springs, which are the 614's. From light to heavy, they go 612, 614, and 613. A little out of order. Once I installed the winch and bumper (not pictured) I added some 1/2" shims to get some height back. Overall, I've got close to 4" of lift in the front right now. In the rear, I only have some extended shackles, which give me almost 2" of lift. Very soon I'll be upgrading to a full set of OME leafs so it should give me the factory rake back - right now I'm just about level so when I haul stuff in the bed, I quickly look "saggy" :D . The ride actually isn't too bad. The Tundra's are known for their "bed bounce" and that will be virtually gone with the OME leafs and poly bushings.

I use "pure gas" (non-oxygenated) in my truck and before my lift and tires I could eek out 18/19MPG in the city. After the lift and tires, I'm down to about 16/17MPG.

Nice man, thanks for the info and the pic.

I'm so on the fence about which way to go with lifting it. How is the uptravel? Do you rub when you're stuffing the tire? Or anyone else running a 35" tire on their Tundra
