Is it for the street or off road or both.

if you want someone to talk to you should talk to jp008 on the member list he has done a few, you should see his samurai. wag. axles yj springs streched frame in the front, i think it is still street legal. He just built a sidkick that was bad!!! I suggest that you build it right the first time. I know I have had a few myself, It was just a s.p.o.a. and 31" tires at first but then it was not good enough, wanted bigger tires went to a 35" and then broke axles. birfields axle housing. If you are going to run a tire bigger than a 33" i would change axles to toyota or waganeer. Have you changed gearing in the axles you have what about your t case. I have seen the 6-1 tcase gears, and road with someone that had them, it made a big diff.

A samauri for street? That's funny.

First, gears. The 50 hp those things have aren't near enough for the 1.7 or whatever low range they have. You'll want a 6:1 to make proper power for 33's or maybe 35's.
Ditch the lift springs and go with a YJ spring conversion kit. The springs on those things are like two feet long and don't flex much at all. Since it's such a short wheelbase you want all the flex you can get or it'll be super sketchy on any rocks. Also, the conversion kit stretches the wheelbase like three inches. Don't worry about regearing the stock axles, they'll just break. However, you could run a 33" tire on it stock and be alright as long as you don't pinch the tire in a hole or something like that. And a 33" tire to a sami is like a 37 to any other rig. The stock steering has to be replaced, there's a company that makes a Z link steering setup with a idler arm. I think it's cal-mini. Throw a spool in the rear and a lockright in the front and call it good. Maybe add some power steering from a Tracker if you don't have buff arms.
Once that's done that thing will be a mean crawler. That's a duplicate of what's done to my friends sami and it goes like crazy. It showed up a bunch of cruizers and cj's on the Rubicon, even did the sluice without a problem.
That would get you by, eventually you'd probably have to do a stronger T-case mount. The stock one's like to bend on those making it hard to shift. I wouldn't worry about rocker guards or anything, just let the rocks clearance the rockers, you want to keep it light after all. Some maximum offset rims would be nice to to make it a little wider.

Click HERE for a pic of my samurai. It has coils and yota axles and bald 35 boggers. If you are ever in SLC, you're more than welcome to swing by and check it out if you are interested or just want to talk about samurais. Also, there are a few samurai guys that can give some advice if you want at the forum on my site.

My sami is still in the garage but I'm working on swaping the axles to toyota with YJ springs. I have also swaped to the 1.6 L sidekick/Tracker engine (fuel injection is nice). I am using the stock 5 speed trans with a kicker 2 Transfer case from OTTindustries and a Toyota T-Case to back up the kicker 2.

I should have no problems fitting 35's. I am going to go with Rocky-Road for the Toyota Power steering set up. I have also bought a turbo that is going to work perfect with the 1.6L. With all that, I should be able to run any trail and still drive on the road as well.

Hope this gives you some good ideas!!!

Not to Hijack your thread but I have a 1.6L adapter kit that I could part with if your interested. This kit will let you use the stock Trans and T-case.
