A samauri for street? That's funny.
First, gears. The 50 hp those things have aren't near enough for the 1.7 or whatever low range they have. You'll want a 6:1 to make proper power for 33's or maybe 35's.
Ditch the lift springs and go with a YJ spring conversion kit. The springs on those things are like two feet long and don't flex much at all. Since it's such a short wheelbase you want all the flex you can get or it'll be super sketchy on any rocks. Also, the conversion kit stretches the wheelbase like three inches. Don't worry about regearing the stock axles, they'll just break. However, you could run a 33" tire on it stock and be alright as long as you don't pinch the tire in a hole or something like that. And a 33" tire to a sami is like a 37 to any other rig. The stock steering has to be replaced, there's a company that makes a Z link steering setup with a idler arm. I think it's cal-mini. Throw a spool in the rear and a lockright in the front and call it good. Maybe add some power steering from a Tracker if you don't have buff arms.
Once that's done that thing will be a mean crawler. That's a duplicate of what's done to my friends sami and it goes like crazy. It showed up a bunch of cruizers and cj's on the Rubicon, even did the sluice without a problem.
That would get you by, eventually you'd probably have to do a stronger T-case mount. The stock one's like to bend on those making it hard to shift. I wouldn't worry about rocker guards or anything, just let the rocks clearance the rockers, you want to keep it light after all. Some maximum offset rims would be nice to to make it a little wider.
