Need a 4x4 Friendly Inspection and Emissions Shop (again!!!)

I finally got my CJ back from surgery and once again and need to find a 4x4 friendly inspection and emissions shop preferably in the sandy/draper area. I asked this question last year but was fortunate enough that my regular mechanic passed it. Unfortunately he moved on and the new guy is a putz! Any suggestions or contact information would be fantastic. PM me if you don't want to post the info, I would hate to get anyone in trouble.

Thanks,
Jason

My CJ is really not that far off from being 100% street legal. The tires sitck out past the flares maybe 2"s and I'll install some mud flaps. I'll PM Seth if he does not drop a post in the next few days.

I don't know of ANY "friendly" shops anymore. I don't think they can afford to be "friendly" or they lose their inspection licenses.

I had the shop that normally works on my vehicles (they actually know me) inspect my "Jeep", but it had to comply to the law for them to pass it.

I am betting said inspector above would not really appreciate his name being publicly associated with this thread. I personally would consider editing his and the shops names out of your posts guys.

And on another note, getting it passed is only half the battle. My buddy Eric (rosedude on RME) was in Moab for easter, his cruiser has full body, street registration, and was hauled around on a trailer all easter just to be safe. He got a phone call the other day from a Sheriff or Moab P.D. (can't remember which), asking him about the guy who passed it. Apparently an inspector saw it on the trailer in a parking lot and wrote down the plate # so they could try to bust the guy who passed it. All it was missing was flares and flaps, but sh*t, it was on a freakin trailer!

Anyways they called and wanted dirt on the guy who passed it, of course he told the officer that it had flares and flaps etc. at the time of inspection, but he had taken them off during our trip.

Moral of the story is, these guys do us a huge service. When people risk their jobs and livelyhood by giving too much info, forgetting the three rules (deny, deny, deny), etc. it makes it harder for all of us. Keep this kinda stuff in PM's.

btw, now that i have moved to 'bama my narrowed, bedless, doorless, windowless pickup on 42's is perfectly legal! (insert pirate salute here)

Agreed. I actually work for a place in sandy and I myself have to put flaps, flares and tires on (height issues) to get mine passed. And if you dont know if ANY inspector gets caught passing something illegal the inspector and shop can both be fined upwards of $50,000 and have there license revoked peremantly. Now if you figure you do 10 a day you'll lose $8,400 a month or more and to a company thats a grip load of money. I agree it's getting harder to get things passed but dont hang any one out to dry when he/she is helping you out.

everything on mine is or will be legal at the time of inspection except for the lack of windsheild washers that I can't seem to find anywhere:(

I picked up legal rims off of another member that I'm mounting my MTR's on. The beadlocks will only go on for offroad and I need to mount my mudflaps but as I'm new to the "jeep Thing" I'm still trying to figure out how to mount them:ugh:

I used some square tube as a 'sleeve' that I welded to my frame. From there I inserted a smaller piece of square tube and drilled a hole for a retaining clip (at the moment it's a 3/8" bolt) and built my mudflap bracket off the smaller piece of tube. The fit the letter of the law and can be removed for trail use in about 1 minute or less.

This is exactly what I did on my blazer so I may use it on the CJ;)

I have the same set up waiting to go in my CJ. Just need some quick release clips.

Ace Hardware in Bountiful seems to have a good selection. They're not the cheapest I've found, but they have a lot of stuff. The Lowes at 90th South used to have about everything you'd ever want fastener wise, but I've not been in there for 3 years or so.

i'll try and post some pics of my mudflaps when i can.

If you can imagine drilling a hole in the rear bumper facing the vehicle, or perpendicular to it. then sliding in the hole previously drilled, a metal pole that is welded or bolted to the mudflap. on the metal pole there is hole drilled to allow holding it in place with a cotter pin... on and off in seconds...

I'll try to thow up some pics of my mud flaps this weekend. I think total they cost about $15 for the metal and $5 for the big semi mud flap I cut in half.

Here is a pic of my CJ, it does have rear TJ flares so the tires only stick out inch or two. Its still full body, got a cat and sensors for the 4.0L swap, even has emergency brakes so inspection really isn't that bad unless I get a nazi.
