So my Harbor freight air compressor died on me. I think I let the oil go dry on it. What oilless compressor should I get. I have a budget of around $500 to spend.

Not picky. I know I will be more vigilant in checking the oil. Was just thinking less maintenance would be better since I killed this one. Really just use it for airing up tires occasionally nail or staple gun or air chisel. Some other small air tools. Just curious what's good. Larger tank is nice for less duty cycles.

Bumping this thread, thoughts on this: https://www.californiaairtools.com/...actor-grade/2-0-hp-air-compressors/cat-20020/

My thoughts:
  • I like that it's not massive, it's portable, and not very expensive
  • It'll be in the building with me so quiet is good
  • Hobby use only, I'll only be using one tool at a time and I plan to use it for my tube bender, plasma cutter (someday), LVLP painting (someday, I know nothing about painting), and basic pneumatic hand tools and tires
Any advice would be appreciated.

Just going off a quick glance the cfm might be a little on the low side for some of your stated purposes? That being said I rocked a cheap 30 gallon oilless craftsman for almost a decade and a half without issue doing way more than it was rated for.

I agree this is on the low side, but to your point is it "good enough" which is the game I'm playing with myself haha. I wasn't considering this compressor as an option until I found a decent deal on one and now I'm considering it. I pulled up the cfm specs for the bender ram and plasma cutter at this fits the bill with little head room. Like I said, I don't know much of anything about painting but a quick google search and the companies marketing says it should be good for LVLP applications.
