New Opportunity Dilemma

As many of you know, I've been in the automobile business all of my adult life. Retail and the hours that go with it was something I left behind in 1999 and since then have worked exclusively for manufacturers up until 2009 when I ended up at the dealership I am still with today. Although it's a retail environment, I only work 9 to 6 M-F and I get 3 weeks off per year which is awesome (in theory) for my expo lifestyle. I have not been happy with the amount of money I make which makes it difficult to afford my expo lifestyle.

On Friday, I got a call from a Toyota Dealership who invited me to come and talk to them about an opportunity there. They got my number from a vendor that we mutually do business with. I have an appointment 1 hour from now.

Here's the deal:
It's more money for me... like 2007 money
It will be retail hours including Saturdays

So if I take the job that I am sure they will offer me, I could afford my expo lifestyle (Cruiser Outfitter stocks rise) but I'll always be at work and never get out there. I've been looking for something else for the last 2 1/2 years and stay in UT because I love the outdoors but it's hard to be expo with Sundays and Tuesdays off.... lame. On the other hand, good paying jobs are hard to come by these days and money is important too.

How much would giving up Saturdays be worth to you?

Money, time, or fun, pick any two . I don't think I'd wanna give up the Saturdays, myself.

I don't make much money, but I stay at my job because of the work/life balance it affords me. I get 13 hours off a month, and they roll over up to 300 hours. To me, a flexible schedule is worth at least the $20k more I could make somewhere else.

I think it all depends on how difficult it will be to schedule time off. Some jobs just require a little less impulse and a little more planning

I am eating Taco Bell after the interview. I met with the GM and a few other people. There is a possibility that they might move a dude they have into the job they called me for and put me in his place. He works 7 to 5 M - F, I could make more scrilla and still have weekends. I've never been a morning person though.

On a side note, here's some advice: Don't change jobs in the middle of getting a home loan!

Out of the blue I was offered a new job last week. I gave my notice to my current employer on Friday and then today the loan people called my work to ask if I was still employed and such. They told them I had just given notice, now my loan just got denied.

Anyone have a place for sale?

The biggest factor for me would be what type of time would it take from my family, especially with having to work on saturdays, if I only saw my boys for a couple hours or even a hour each day, it would suck. Sounds like you got a good set up offered to you though for more money and saturdays off. With the economy being as crappy as it is right now it would be a little scary to start a new gig, especially if you are in a safe position currently, but my feeling is that if they are looking for someone to fill the spot with the economy the way it is, then its probably a pretty safe position to have and especially if they are calling you and want you to have the job from the good reference that has been given to them. I would take it.

I've never had a cup of coffee in my life. I do love the smell of it though. I'll just buy more ARB stuff for my rig and get energized by the awesomeness.

It's always been a goal of mine to not let making a living get in the way of living. I got it nearly perfect in 2007 abut it lasted only 14 months. There was a time in 2009 when I almost got to 2007 but that lasted only 6 months.... been trying hard to get back ever since. My whole family is still in FL and I only see them once or twice a year. My only family out here is Stephen, Kurt and Moody so I am in big trouble.

I am a horrible person in the morning, and my current job starts at 5:30 am for a day shift... The early morning sucks really bad, but it is worth dealing with because the other aspects of the job rock.

Sunday/tuesday off isn't so bad. It's one vacation day away from a 3 day weekend that nobody else takes. You'll have all of your favorite expo rated KOA's practically to yourself.

I actually prefer a sunday-tuesday trip vs a friday-sunday. Less asshats asshatting around.

I have to disagree. I have been doing 7am for ten years, and while I love that time to start work, it doesn't get any easier to get up early.
