Well, another update. Work has been progressing fairly quickly on this item as we've been trying to get it to Crawlfest. I think we've just bailed on that. We COULD have it "done" (driveable), but it's a "new" project and that's a long way to haul it to test it out. We'll probably back off of it for a few weeks and have it ready for the U4-Winter on the Rocks thing.
We have the brakes plumbed. Using the stock Chev one ton disk/drum setup, YJ master cyl.(for now), '93 K3500 front brake hoses, and the rear hose of the YJ. We moved the rear hard line from the stock location and repositioned the bracket to a more central location. I'm not sure what the rubber hose is that's on there, but I seems longer than a stock YJ hose to me. It conveniently fit up nicely with the hardline setup on the 14 bolt.
Steering is all in and somewhat adjusted. Still need to mount the steering ram and plumb fill the lines.
As mentioned before, we've moved to some Pitbull 39.5" Mad Dogs (I'll have to verify that, but I'm pretty sure that's what's there) that measure out to about 38-38.25" at about 25 psi. The tread seems softer than my Kevlar MTRs and I'd expect them to work at least as well, I'd assume better? The tires are WIDE, though. We're going for street legal and this gets our frame height to a more reasonable state but I think we're still .5" tall or so? We need at least one decent main leaf on the spring so I'll probably replace front springs and keep the 'ok' one for the spare.
We've got the passenger sheetmetal trimmed and the owner is building some "rock rails" that double as a flare extension/slider out of 2x4 steel. It's turning out better than it sounds. Drivers side still needs to get done. I'll have to snap some pics. They need a lot of finish work, but the concept is interesting.
Rear driveline is in and it's about 15.5" long. Looks like we're OK with as much cycling of the suspension as we can do in the shop. We've got good angles and I think it shouldn't have any vibes. Front driveline is 39.5" long. We've got a stock Chevy front driveline in there (?--don't know it's origin, but it came with the Jeep through multiple owners--I doubt anyone knows it's actual origin) The slip spline is probably at max extension as it sits at rest, and the slip spline is "questionable" so we'll need to make some adjustments there.
What we've got left to install.
-Ruff stuff diff cover (NICE piece--Thanks again Dan!)
-Ruff stuff traction bar pieces (this will need some engineering for a crossmember and we'll need some HD tube for the actual bar). I really like Dan's methods there. He got us the stuff we needed at a very affordable price including shipping. We can scrounge up the rest of the material.
-plumb ARB line to yet to be purchased compressor
-14 bolt Lock-Rite (thanks for the deal Lewis!)
-AGR rock ram (mounting to the diff cover--not my favorite, but with hi-steer it's a really easy place to do it and it works OK at worst)
-paint/install windshield frame
What we've got left to purchase.
-ARB compressor
-exhaust
-windshield glass
-probably a hundred "little things" like everybody else needs to get a pile running.
-front driveline rework
Basically he's out of cash which is understandable as he's put about $700-1000 into it in the past 45 days.
I'm outside to finish up what I can on my pile before Thursday.
