Next month I'll be in the vid hopefully. My TLT based 2.2 is currently under construction and will be done in time for our (I'm a member of UTRCRC) September 10th comp in Moab. :D
Sweet I am getting ready to build me one. I have the full dvd and some of the stuff that these things can do is just way cool.

umm yeah...like we have another 1000$ to throw at another "Project"...the walmart way out is the way for most of us...we have real 4x4 projects to worry about, we don't need another high budget one!! :ugh:

You don't have to spend a grand. You could build a competition ready 2.2 crawler for around 400 if you built your own chassis and links. Less if you bought used stuff. Big, Clodbuster based crawlers can be built for about the same if you run the stock tires and build your own chassis. You can easily spend a grand, but you don't have to by any means.

Oh...and once these are built, they don't really require more money to be thrown at them. Occasionally you'll break a 3 dollar part, but at 3 miles an hour, they don't hit anything hard, and it's hard to complain about a 3 dollar part. You'll spend more money than that on gas looking for cool new places to take it.

Or you guys could stop being cheap

 are you new?

telling us to stop being cheap is like telling the sky not to be blue
p.s there is only so much you can do with that expensive crappy crawler, a lot of us have multiple hobbies and like to distribute the funds... thats why we buy a $150 crawler and use that to satisfy the urges and spend the hundreds of dollars left for something else.

I saw three of the 1:6 ones at the Jordan Landing Walmart last time I was there. I've never seen a 1:18 one.

They have them at every Wal Mart I have been to around here.

Here are both of mine.

I just got the small one today, but I have beat the crap out of the big one and it is holding up great.

I also have several of the good "Hobby" quality crawlers, and with these I just keep in the back of my head that it was only $150 so it won't be able to do everything my other rigs that cost 10X as much can do. Kinda like when you are used to wheeling a comp buggy, then you go and wheel a stock TJ, you gotta remember that isn't a 35 spline 60, it's only a little dana 30 :D

With enough creativity and enginuity anything can be transformed into a crawler...but I wouldn't suggest it. You'd have to convert it to electric to get any sort of crawling performance out of it. That 4.6 is an awesome engine, I've got one in my AE MGT, but it's not a 55 turn lathe motor, which is what you want for crawling. Like I said, anything can be made into a crawler, but converting a Savage would take a lot of time, and most likely a lot more money than would be spent buying a "normal" vehicle to base it off of. There is a ton of room for customization on top of Clodbuster or TLT axles. Personally, I prefer the TLT, as they're cheaper, and much, much more realistic and fun. :) You've probably seen some of the pics I've posted on this board of mine, it's based on a Tamiya TLT.
