I am looking at a muscle car to replace my Discovery soon and I am wondering if anyone has any impressions of the 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO? I am trying to compare these to a 2001-2004 Mustang GT or Mach 1.

If it wasn't built in the 60's or 70's it's not a muscle car. I don't care if it can do 0 to 800mph in 3 seconds, it's still not a muscle car.

It runs at LEAST as good as a healthy small block Nova or Camaro, and I bet it could out handle a Gen IV Vette or anything older than that. I'm impressed. I'd own a GTO if the back seat was a little more accomodating for the chillin'. It's kinda 1st gen Firebird sized and similarly accessible.

Looks....I dunno. Not my favorite car out of Detroit (it's really a Holden out of Australia, mate), but not bad for the past few decades. Real simple and bland. Kinda like the original.

GTO all the way. I Realllllly like how they look. If you look close you can tell it means business, It doesn't scream 'look at me', you say Bland, I say Sleeper. Theres a reason you don't see them... (same goes for da popo for those of us who like to hit the gofast pedal :) )

Well, my grandpa has a red GTO that he really likes, even better than his last Z28 but I have not driven the GTO.

I do like the sleeper style about them, and the styling of the body really does appeal to me. I just can't call it a Goat,, cause it has absolutely no styling cues from the original but oh well.

And I don't care if it was made in 1969 or 1999 or 2007, if its got an American label and it has a big V-8 and rear wheel drive I am calling it a muscle car. (Mustang, new Camaro, new Challanger, GTO, :D)

Again, not a muscle car.

I think he wants transportation, not a project :D

I wouldn't even waste my time test driving a 2001-2004 Mustang GT... I would look at an SVT cobra, but would Much rather have a new GTO.

I didn't say they were crap or that he shouldn't buy one, I said they weren't muscle cars.

Wow you guys are really helping Lenny out with his question by arguing over the 'true' meaning of the term muscle car.... lol
