old muscle, thats what its all about.
old muscle, thats what its all about.
ya if it'll start on a cold morning
your right, and those civics would leave your big V-8 "muscle cars" in the dust.
there hasnt been a real car built in america since the 70's
I almost bought a GTO a couple years ago(as it turns out It only has 2 seatbelts in the back and I have 3 kids, even after I offered to add another one, she wasn't going for it), go test drive one, you'll never look back, I had a hard time getting it to stick up with factory tires, it's got enough power to pull 11-12 through the quarter, but not enough weight in the back - and not enough weight transfer, a battery relocator kit and some shock tuning and stickier tires would make a world of difference, they handle great through the twisties too, nearly flat roll. -> ask someone who knows me - how hard I'd push it
11-12?
I'll give it 14-15, but not 11-12. Sorry, you'll have to spend money to get to 11-12. A traditional big block muscle car is kinda rough to drive on the street when they're that fast.
GM says it's a 13 second car in their documentation
"The awesome powertrain is capable of propelling the GTO form 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and 13-second quarter mile times."
I really think if you could get better weight transfer and more traction you could put a stock GTO to 12. The tremic t-56 cleans up the shift throw between 2-3 and 3-4 so the gearing is ton's better, you can keep the engine in it's power band instead of either over-revving the 2-3 shift, or short shifting it.
Did the rough calcuations accleration vs hp, assumes no loss of traction and 13% parisitic power loss, 400HP with 3925lbs (GTO+Driver) should run 12.470
at 109.30 mph. (also note that GM is conservative with power numbers)
I think the GTO looks like a sleeper car. Take the wing off the back and it looks like the cavalier but with a much bigger motor. I still stand behind my choice on the GTO.

That's exactly the thing that turned me off the new GTOs. It looks like a tuned down Grand Am. I mean what were they really thinking?
It's GM. They haven't thought about anything other than marketing and 'packages' for the past 20 years.
I've only ever looked into the new GTO's one time, and I was HIGHLY unimpressed. They are decently quick, but my tuned STi could walk all over it. I know you're not interested in an STi, so I'll move past that.
If you want fast, get an SVT and put a 13 psi pulley on it, of course you'll need exhaust and intake, and preferably some engine management. You'll max out the stock speed limiter(160mph) in 6th gear at 4500rpms, with EM though, you can remove the speed limiter.
If you want luxury, and speed, get the M3... or, the M5 or M6 if you could fork the bill. I thinnk the 3 series look better though. Tougher front ends. Get exhaust and intake and I think EM from Denon. They also make a supercharger, a VERY expensive supercharger. But it puts you at around 500 whp.
Ya, and back to the STi... I know you don't like the wing or the hood scoop. But just get a spoiler from a 2007 limited, very small and suttle, kinda like nascars. then do a front mount intercooler, so you no longer need the hood scoop. It is 4 doors, which you also don't want, but it helps a little on insurance. Do exhaust, intake, EM and you'd be sittin close to 300awhp. It makes for a VERY fun car! Plus, you can join SCCA and race at MMP, E-center, Wendover airport, etc... Go fast legally!
Anyway, sorry for the long rant... I'm bored at work. Another thing for ya though, check out utahmusclecars.com.. It's a forum like this. Cool guys.
