No more Nike...

I think this is exactly what Nike wanted. I hadn’t thought about them or their equipment in years, and now we have spent two days debating and getting emotional about it. Whether we agree or not, Nike is getting a lot of Publicity.

They can still eat sh!t and die, but hey at least they converted me into hating them...
 
I've preferred Nike shoes for running because of their fit. I'm not going to burn the ones I have but won't be buying any more. I even "passed" on the better Nike shin guards last night for my kids for another brand that will work fine. I've heard that Nike's stock took a dip. I personally hope they see and feel the results of their decision to put an anti-troops, LEO, USA guy as a face of their company.

Having said this, I'm grateful for the right that KaperDick has to kneel and show his lack of support for out troops, police, and constitution. I'm also grateful for the NFL's right to treat that how they like. And then Nike's right to show their support for this douche-canoe.

It's then up to the people to either show our support for their decisions by watching or not, buying or not, and voicing our opinion or not -which will then sway the private companies into doing that will be best for their bottom line.....or not.

The agency to do as they please and reap the rewards/ consequences is what makes this country great.

I am not one to jump quickly on the racism bandwagon and even though my wife and kids are not white I have not seen them ever be mistreated.

However, real problems do exist in society. Not all are race based, but I think we all know that racism isn't a thing of the past.
 
Nike built itself on being a disruptive brand with a MAJOR marketing budget and some insanely smart marketing strategies. That being said, they have yet to release a single marketing story around Kaepernick outside of a single picture of his face and text reading "Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything" Did he sacrifice everything? Doesn't look like it, he's still alive.

If you want to take a step back and think about the marketing story all they are doing is what they have always done. Make a bold statement and get people talking about the brand.

Everyone keeps saying they should put Pat Tillman as the face of the ad. Would they get the same response from the public and make the same waves? Doubtful. How do we know they don't have a Pat Tillman or a wounded soldier ad the follows this one up? I think it would be genius and right up Nike's alley to do something like that. Just use us all as pawns in their overarching marketing plan.

NIKE is not dumb (could be argued by members of RME currently), but I feel like they have something larger up their sleeves on this one. They are not going to devalue their brand on purpose for shits and giggles.

Yup he's sacrificed a lot. He was adopted by the same society that is oppressing him when his own family decided they didn't want him oppressing them. He was provided a home, education and opportunity. He's had his higher education paid for and is now a millionaire for playing a game for a few years. Society has really been harsh to him. I weep for his hardships every night. If this is oppression sign me up.

I used to enjoy football, I didn't watch a single game last year and don't plan to watch any this year. You're a "professional" athlete, you're paid to entertain people not express your opinions at the work place. I'm all for freedom of speech, but this isn't the place for it. If he/they want to protest, do it on their own time off the field.
 
personally I think that we need to stop giving this all the attention its getting and just stop posting the memes and stuff... Nike will be out of business soon enough.

This. I don't watch the news or have FB anymore. Some call it ignorance. I call it bliss. Turns out what the news has to say has very little bearing on my day to day life.

Soooo many people don't care about this and Nike makes cool shoes and apparel people love. I was at the Traverse Mountain store a few weeks ago Nike was easily the most packed store. IMO Nike isn't going anywhere.

I didnt even know what this thread was about because I dont care about football at all. I haven't seen the ad and after seeing this thread I still like Jordans.

Nike isn't going anywhere, but they don't need my dollars. That's all I or anyone on here can do. If you feel strongly about it, don't buy their stuff and move on with your life. I haven't shopped at Target for years now, and Toys r Us for more years prior to their closing, my life is just fine without them. I just do my part and move on........however It's people like me who just live my life that don't raise hell - the silent majority that will be overrun by the noisy minority. Look where we are now on many social issues, I never thought we would get to this point.

Isn't it amazing, all the wonderful things the kneeling NFL players did in the off season to help their cause? Oh wait, I haven't seen any. Maybe there are some, but I don't believe they really want a solution or are willing to do anything substantial to make the change.

So, we are only to care about or protest issues that affect us personally at that specific time in our lives?
