It might have been discussed before, but I have not seen it.. Why didnt you build a buggy from scratch. You have all the mechanicals. I dont know what your body looked like up close but sure looked pretty from pics i have seen. I cringed to see you putting it on the chopping block. I seen many and many chop and the outcome is not as pretty as the orginal. I have always liked your work and am anxious to see the result, but sad to see the red cruiser go.
Are you going to skin it back to a crusier or?
um..... yep, that kinda sums it upI Lean said:Just a guess, but it really helps to have something to start with, like a frame and firewall like Shawn kept. Starting from scratch is much more difficult, more work, and not everyone should just jump right in a build a buggy. Not to pick on Shawn's fabrication abilities, but since this is his thread I'll use him as an example--he might not feel comfortable building a buggy until he's done a back-half project like this one.
Plus, it saves a TON of work keeping the firewall--that's a bunch of sheetmetal work saved, (firewall, some of the tranny tunnel, cowl, hood....) and most of the vehicles wiring as well. Steering column, pedals, possibly retains a heater....
With the shape of a Cruiser, it's also pretty easy to keep that cowl/firewall section and still end up with a much narrower rig, since they don't reach full width until after the doors. You can also claim it's "the same rig" you've had for years. (kinda the George Washington's Axe theory)

Over and over and over. I have designed it 4-5 times on a cad program, with wire, in my sleep, and even on the pooper...xj_punk said:have you thought much about the tube design?

Really the only part that will be narrower will be the rear. The sides are only about 1-2" narrower. It is tall, it is the same height as the old Cruiser. Next winter when I put coilovers on the front I will lower it.I Lean said:DANGER!!!! It's gonna make you happy.
How much narrower is it than the factory Cruiser was?
Is that ride height? It looks TALL.
