Maybe just because with the slower speeds in 4WD, vibration isn't as much of an issue, so the CV wouldn't be as necessary?????????
Some times it's not all about the vib, soffening the angle will keep U joints alive.

I ordered my PRP Seats today... I hope they will be here for my X-Mas Vacation so I can finish the tube work.... If not, there are many other items that need to be completed.

OK..OK.. Have to ask..

It might have been discussed before, but I have not seen it.. Why didnt you build a buggy from scratch. You have all the mechanicals. I dont know what your body looked like up close but sure looked pretty from pics i have seen. I cringed to see you putting it on the chopping block. I seen many and many chop and the outcome is not as pretty as the orginal. I have always liked your work and am anxious to see the result, but sad to see the red cruiser go.

Are you going to skin it back to a crusier or?

Just a guess, but it really helps to have something to start with, like a frame and firewall like Shawn kept. Starting from scratch is much more difficult, more work, and not everyone should just jump right in a build a buggy. Not to pick on Shawn's fabrication abilities, but since this is his thread I'll use him as an example--he might not feel comfortable building a buggy until he's done a back-half project like this one.

Plus, it saves a TON of work keeping the firewall--that's a bunch of sheetmetal work saved, (firewall, some of the tranny tunnel, cowl, hood....) and most of the vehicles wiring as well. Steering column, pedals, possibly retains a heater....

With the shape of a Cruiser, it's also pretty easy to keep that cowl/firewall section and still end up with a much narrower rig, since they don't reach full width until after the doors. You can also claim it's "the same rig" you've had for years. :) (kinda the George Washington's Axe theory)

um..... yep, that kinda sums it up :D

I have gone back and forth many times on a full tube buggy but these days it seems like everyone has one and after awhile they seem to be all the same. Keeping the fire wall, cowl, and hood allows me to keep some of the personality of the Cruiser.

It's all about evolution ;)

Any Updates? :greg:
Soon...... ;)

I have been working on the crossmember and rear links. The links are done and the crossmember is almost. The PRP seat should arrive today so I can start caging. Here is a pic of how I tied the upper link into the frame. And a pic of hown the crossmember kinda looks. The driverside of the crossmember is very close to the drive shaft. For now it will just be tacked until I can twist out the cruiser to make sure it wont hit the shaft.

have you thought much about the tube design?
i think your cruiser had the best looking lines i have ever seen on a fullbodied rig. i really like the way this guy did his tube work, it looks like it is compcut even though it is tube and the roof looks sweet imo.
i think that is the best you can do if the plans are to keep it a 4seater.

DANGER!!!! It's gonna make you happy. :)

How much narrower is it than the factory Cruiser was?

Is that ride height? It looks TALL.

I like the look of that...

any thought to lowering the ride height or getting bigger tires? I like the lower rigs.

Really the only part that will be narrower will be the rear. The sides are only about 1-2" narrower. It is tall, it is the same height as the old Cruiser. Next winter when I put coilovers on the front I will lower it.
