All I know is that I asked, "Before I buy this sleeping bag, I've got a question. Is Kirkham's, as a company, a supporter of the Sierra Club and SUWA?"
He said yes and I told him I would take my business elsewhere.

So you asked the cashier this? How old was he? 16 or 17? :-\

I'm sitting in Recreation Outlets parking lot at the moment.. The 3 guys I talked to all said that the owners and his sons love ohv travel so they can't imagine that they'd be opposing such use.. I bought so camp chairs..

Nowto head over to Kirkhams..

It would probably be beneficial if someone actually asked the owner.

That's what I was thinking. It would be tough to get a valid answer from a worker because we know what most of their answers will be. I was thinking about emailing them, but again, am I going to get an employee that can't officially speak for the company, or am I going to get someone answering the email that can speak on behalf of their company?

Let us know what you find out Jason.

Kirkhams stance - Is to have a lack of stance.

Ok, so I had a good chat with the manager Andy. He said that no they do not support groups like SUWA, or Sierra Club. They feel as a company that they provide outdoor gear to outdoor enthusiats. How their customers choose to recreate is up to them.

I will say that the moment I walked in I was met with a giant board maybe 3x6' with photos of some employees recent trip to the Maze area.. Good offroad action shots of two 3rd gen 4runners all over this trip report.

Andy said he'd love to chat with anyone who might have more questions..

Personally, I feel money is better spent at recreation outlet.. That could just be from years of buying equipment there though..

I think it's time that ohvfriendly.com gets its own thread.. Posts from the 'haters' thread and some from this thread would be a good start to such a thread..

I also think that there should be a 'grey area' list. There will be several companies that have no stance either way (Kirkhams), which is understandable in their line of business IMO. I don't know your thoughts/feelings on how extreme you want to get with ohvfriendly.com Caleb, though the way you have approached it and set it up seems very tasteful and not an 'anti' this or that company type thing at all.. Kudos. A grey list would provide needed info, and doesn't exactly need to be a negative thing; such as the mind set 'if you're not a part of the solution, you're a part of the problem'. I'd like to see as much info as can be provided, then the end user making their call as to what is good/bad, and where they will spend their money.

Make sense?

Right.. A white list of supporters, and grey list of nuetral, and a black list of those who donate to Sierra and/or SUWA etc..

I've got an option now that when they submit a company, they can be classified as a Supporter, Non-Supporter, or Neutral. I'm going to be redoing the site a little and I'm just trying to figure out how exactly to present the information. I plan to kind of push the idea that it's better to give your money to the companies that actively support us (like RO) vs. those that don't want to take a stand one way or the other.

If anyone has any suggestions for ohvfriendly.com, I'm more than happy to implement and make changes. I'll start an ohvfriendly.com thread in the Land Use section.
