As most of you know, I manage a retail store here in Moab. This is the only department store in about 100 miles. Our prices are based on a national average, not the infalted "Moab" price.
Every Monday is Senior discount day when we offer 15% off to all customers 55 and older. We are the only store in the the area (to my knoweldge) that offers a discount to seniors.
It never fails.... every monday, some old lady has to bitch me out over something. When did people get entilted for growing old.
Today it was an old lady that was upset because there were 4 people in here line. I heard over the intercom the cashier call for a second cashier, and about 10 seconds later call for a third cashier. Then about a minute later they call me to the front. This old lady procedes to yell at me for not having enough registers running, when there are 2 open with no waiting. She complaines that because she is a senior her time is more precious than others so I should staff all registers all day regardless of need.
I explained to here, that we call for additional cashiers when the line gets to be more than 2 people, that the 1st cashier had done exactly that, and that I could staff every register all the time, but then i would also have to hire additional employees to cover the positions of all the people standing around on the registers. That would cost me more money, so I would have to do away with things like senior discounts, or infalte my prices to the "moab" price.
I asked her wich she would rather have, lower prices and a discount day and have to wait a minute or two longer while additional cashiers are called as needed, or have no discount and pay higher prices.
I might as well have slapped the old lady in the face, for the look that she gave me. How dare I suggest that all seniors were not entilted to a discount for being old.
Ok... I am done ranting now.
I feel better.
