Our yard remodel

Man, I feel your pain with this yard work. Been helping my mom to get here yard back together.

Re-arranged the sprinklers, some little cement work, endless tilling, spreading mulch in with the native soil, leveling with landscaping rake... ... and it goes on. Spent today reworking the valves for a automatic system... good times there. Plus, still some small leaks in the lines... ugh.. hate that when you get it all together hoping its tight, but not too tight to strip anything.... yikes...

So I hear you all to well. Next Wednesday is the big sod laying day... Good times!

FJ55 Land Cruiser = Yard tractor

If it weren't for the bastardized mirrors off of an old Chevy, or whatever the hell they came off of, the 55 would've slipped right through the 6' opening.. See, the cruiser is about 5' 9"s wide. Then the stupid non OE mirrors add another 4"s.. So it was tight but I got it unassisted. :)

I also found this 2.5' long shed snake skin a few feet from my front door.. Cool.

The whole idea behind getting the FJ55 in the backyard is to pull the trailer out once it's loaded with the last of the grass waste. Once we get that out tomorrow, we'll lay out the lawn/garden edging and get the yard prepped for sod, which shows up between 6-8am Saturday. With the Cruiser out of the garage for the first time in a few months, I cleaned up the garage.. Which was much needed as it seemed everything was slowly getting lost in the piles of crap all over the place..

Sweet I will get it when we go shooting.

P.S. your yard remodel is making me feel bad about myself, because my yard is a train wreck in the back. thanks a lot.

Where did you end up getting your topsoil? I need about 6 yards or so.

Also, (on the down-low) I can get wholesale on trees and stuff from a place in Sandy.

I went through Tomsic & Sons for the top soil. FWIW I paid $230 for 12yds of 50/50 topsoil/compost, delivered w/ tax. Sixb mentioned that that seemed a bit high for what it was, but I'm niave to most of this, so perhaps I got taken a bit on the price? Regardless, they were easy to do business with; quick on the phone with estimates, and delivered about 2hrs after I called to place the order.

I'll hit you up for wholesale plants.. -_-

We just did about 6 trees, 15 or so shrubs, and some other random things for about 900 bucks. One of the Japanese Maples was about 60% off. Most of the trees were 8-12' tall.

Got another trailer load of grass out, and there's still a little bit more. Leveled out the dirt in preperation for the sod. We moved the trees and other plants into place, and it's starting to look awesome.. Stoked to get the sod in. Not stoked to take the two boxers and golden retriever out on leashes to avoid them screwing up the sod for the first few weeks.. That's going to be the worste.

Sod hasn't shown up, and no word from the company that I ordered it from.. WTF?

In the meantime, we got all of the trees and plants in the ground. It's atleast starting to look more like a yard.. I just got back from Lowes where I bought 11 more plants..

If I were you I'd get a tiller or at least a good garden rake across that packed-down dirt there, helps the sod take root.

I'd have planted those trees a *tiny* bit further in from the fence too, but those aren't oaks or anything, you'll probably be alright.

Looks good, man. You've done a very nice job with the mess you started with. :D

It's not as packed as it may look. There's a good 1-2"s of dusty dirt and soil/compost. It may look compacted from running a 2x4 over it to level it?

Is that fence as buried as it looks? You might want to change that in the near future, if you plan on staying there. I have one area that's like that, it's pretty rotten and about to fall after 15 years. The rest has a small (like 6" wide) concrete "border" it sits on, and looks like new.

If you plan on selling in 5 or 10 years like most people, carry on looks great!

Never knew you had 2 boxers. Got one myself. Got any pics of them? Isn't 2 dogs the legal limit (unless one is a rescue dog)? Not that care, just thought I'd hassle ya.

Ya ya Brian, you'll get an invite ;)

Kurt, no, the sod was a no-show.. Left a few messages and texts.. Finally got a call back around 5:30pm. The lady said that she thinks the sod may have been delivered to another Jason in the area that gets sod on occassion. The reason she wasn't answering the phone was because she had dropped her phone earlier inthe morning while chasing her horses. She was very apologetic and started out by promising us a great deal on the sod.. I'm gonna see if they could just swing an extra 1,000sq ft for the front yard.. Might as well see what they say..

BC, I did talk about the soil against the fence with my buddy. We may lay some cinder blocks around the edges where it's 6+"s deep.. No clue how long we'll be here, but I'd say atleast 10yrs..

Lewis, the boxers are visiting with my SIL from Michigan. Here's a crappy pic I just took of them eating dinner.. Denali is the light brown, male; and McKinley is the brindle-ish one.. Denali's the sweetest dog you'll ever find.. McKinleys a *****..

Did you bury your rain gutter hose in a gravel bed? If not, it won't drain and will just back up and flow out the top...
