Macco.....

Oh, wait.... :)

Seriously though, for a basic shoot why not? They did a really good job on the wife's a few years ago. Just don't plan on getting a good paint job for $179 though. I think I was into that one around $1300.

Just do maaco.

I don't want to do Maaco for two reasons. One, I would prefer to pay a little more and support a local company. Two, I have seen one too many absolutely terrible Macco paint jobs, even the pricey ones. I'm not looking for anything spectacular (this is a Samurai after all) but I would prefer that it not begin to chip and peel in the first three months.

Who is doing the prep work? You? Macco? IMO, most crappy paint jobs to come out of Macco seem to be due to a lack of proper body/prep work prior to the paint.. If the prep is done right there really shouldn't be an issue when Macco shoots your Samurai.

I'm chuckling to myself right now... I send people away because were too expensive I tell them to go get a bid at Macco and then come back and see me. When you actually get there the price somehow increases exponentially and is almost as much as me anyway for half the job. You get an actual paint job at my shop not a disposable coating ;).

Just go buy the stuff and do it yourself.

He prepped and shot my mini truck, great guy and excellent work. It was a far nicer end result than I had asked for. His mame is Cory.

Two quarts of latex and a 2" brush will git er done!

A brush? Come on, thats roller territory!

Hot Rod magazine did an article on how to paint a car with a roller. It actuall turned out really nice looking. The big thing was to just take your time on the prep, then just put on coat after coat until you get it fairly thick. Then they wet sanded and buffed it all out like you would on most hot rods any way and it turned out pretty damn slick.

I vote rattlecan or roll-on.

I've also heard that if you do the prep work yourself (and do a good job of it), and take some good paint to Maaco, then it's fine to have them shoot it. I don't think you're going to find many places in Maaco's price range, so you're either going to have to do it yourself or pay a lot more.
