The last time I was in there, Performance Audio at 2456 W Temple had a bunch of pelican gear. I'd bet they can order the cooler for you.

I'd skip it and buy the fridge though.

One trick is to use a sacrificial bag of ice the night before. This chills the insulation so it is already cold when you leave. If you put ice in the cooler the day of, all the ice goes to waste chilling the insulation.

I have done this and notice about 1-2 days more of ice in the cooler. Combined with the dry ice method, I had ice after 5 days on the Utah backcountry trip. A lot of water, but there was ice still and the water was VERY cold still.
This is brilliant. Amazing how you never think about the simple stuff like this, thanks for the tip!

That and make sure everything you put in is as cold as you can get it.

That said, I've never heard of anyone that thought a fridge was not worth it. Generally, it's "I wish I had bought one years ago"
If you consider a fridge, they look a little small at first, but don't be discouraged. Put your stuff in bags and without ice you can fit a ton in them.

Try a fridge out for a weekend, if you can't live without one at least you will know it :D

I've thought about renting one of yours. I'm not a huge fan of running my battery down overnight or complicating my truck wiring with dual batteries and charge monitors and things, though.

ARB fridges (3 of the rental fleet) have a low battery shutoff that can be adjusted to various levels, the highest of which turns off at ~12.5 volts I recall, long before you compromise a start. It generally won't even activate the shutoff even on the mid level for overnight trips. I can leave my fridge on for ~2 days before I worry about the starting voltage.

The ARB has the charge monitor built in, doesn't draw too much either.
Sorry Kevin, not trying to be a pushy salesman, I just like mine that much.

My wife probably didn't want you to tell me that.

Rent one from Kurt and I'll bet you will own one before long.
I agonized over one for a couple years, but along with very few other expensive items I've decided to spend on, I am glad I bought it every single time I use it.

My cut was 20%, right Kurt?

Well kurt, you have a dual battery system as well don't you? That makes for peace of mind as well.

Yes, most of my rigs have dual batteries but my first Tacoma never did and I used my Engel fridge (no battery shut-off) on many trips over the years all over the west. I had to be a little more conscious about power consumption but far from impractical. When I say I can go 2 days without compromising a start, that is on a single battery. If I let the fridge run on the secondary battery and let it drain down until the fridge won't run, it will go 72+ hours depending on the ambient temps, etc, could go 4-5 days in the winter time for example. Keep in mind these are still insulated coolers once they power is off, so once stuff is cold, they might only bump a ~5 degrees overnight with the power-off, not a big deal for most food situations.

...My cut was 20%, right Kurt?

Lemme make it worse for you - he'll credit you the cost of the rental towards your purchase. :D

At least, he will for Toyota people. I don't know about you, though.
