A new forum section was mentioned, I thought I'd start a thread about it and see where it goes.

Who is into "prepping" and what do you do to prep? Food storage? water? guns? 10,000 rolls of toilet paper?

What do you think is important when it comes to prepping?

What is your secret item that you have A LOT of that you think will be worth its weight in gold to barter with when the SHTF?

When the SHTF, at what point will you "bug out?" or are you going to hole-up until you're out of bullets?

I personally have a little bit of everything....trying to stock up on lots of stuff a little at a time. I'd like to have a place to bug out to but my wife hates that idea. She wants to be around others, and if a big catastrophe hits, she hopes that she is taken out quickly and painlessly. I'm opposite. I'd like to be around to help where I can and if I'm not bugging out with some friends/family, then sharing my resources with other like minded people.

Resources for post SHTF = Generator, Alcohol making supplies (both for drinking and fuel), 6 months of food on hand at all times continually rotating through with some long term storage items like rice, oatmeal and flour thrown in, Water I rotate through 50 Gal of water in 5 Gal LSI cans, 10 Gal of gas on hand (should have more but meh), Way too much camping equipment. First Aid equipment. HAM radio. I would never admit to having guns and ammo so I can avoid the black helicopters that circle Tacoma.

As for bug out or stay put it really depends on the situation at hand, we have the ability to do both and some general plans in place for most situations but to have a set in stone plan for what to do just seems crazy to me as you need to be able to adjust to the situation at hand. But having a few different known places to Bug out to is a good thing.

Significant food storage. We need to improve water storage. Self defense and hunting equip. Camping/survival equip. 100 gals fuel. My wife and I both have advanced first aid training and lots of medical supplies. I'm personally of the opinion that knowledge is the most important thing to gather.

Yellowstone exploding... Need more food storage, need to start water and fuel. Need to finish the camping trailer and lay in more camping supplies... And for the missus to stay healthy, or else we bug in and hope for the best...

Treated gasoline I would say a year or two at most. I store diesel and I would say 3-5 years easy.

I am a big fan of Tacoma's "bug-out-plan"....way cheap and makes surviving the end of the world a breeze!

We have food an some water. We need to work on our other supplies badly. Especially having kids now, that's what we are most worried about.

Depends on how it's stored. If you're going down to the gas station and buying it, it won't last long at all. (We recently had this discussion) If you're buying it in a sealed barrel, then you should be able to get a year or so out of it before rotating it.

FROM Cali, or TO Cali? My family has a cabin up on a lake in N Cali that is completely "off the grid" besides a 500 gal propane tank that would be a great bug-out place. I wish it were closer! Running water from a spring up the mountain, a flushing toilet draining to a septic system, also using the spring water, a few RV lights around the cabin run to a marine battery charged by a solar panel (the only electricity), wood stove, and the propane for as long as it lasts.....I'd love to have something like that around here. I grew up going there every year from Oregon, and when I moved to Utah, I LOL'd at some of the "cabins" that I've seen around here. I guess a cabin to me is a bit more primitive than just a house that's up a canyon somewhere. BUT, having said that, as much as I'd love a primitive cabin, I'd want something with electricity and more modern conveniences at this point just so that my wife would want to use it more.

What is Tacoma's plan?

I'm coming from Cali. I've lived in Utah my whole life until 8 months ago. All my family is up there. I figure I need 35 gallons of extra gas besides a full tank in the truck. I plan on buying seven 5-gal cans. I will rotate them out by using stabilizer and filling our motorcycles with them. I also try to keep at least 3/4 full tank. I figure if I don't have enough gas I'll pull our Jetta till I run out in the truck and then drive it the rest of the way. I guess I could even double pull and bring the bikes behind the Jetta I've found a route that is all back roads with more than half dirt roads.

I would like to preface my comments:

Not trying to sound rude, mean, or what-have-you, but I hope it is pretty clean and obvious that the information discussed here is understood to be "sacred" or at least held with respect and high regards. Meaning, if you do share, and I hope not to specific details, that we all understand that this information is done so with the intent to help our fellow neighbors and brothers/sister. Many of us know each other personally and have been to each others homes. It kind of bothers me to preface like this, but alas, there are trolls among us and others who care not for others.

I would hope that this information would not be abused and used to gain personal advantage should a SHTF or other dire emergency come up, and we turn on one another for our supplies. I hope that is clear enough. If not, then basically, Don't be a jackass and raid our fellow neighbors of this board. If you come looking for trouble at my place, you will find it. I will defend my life and family until death.

As of right now I am getting started more and more and I have the basics, water and food. Building the supplies little at a time. I am working on the defense portion as well, thought It is very hard right now in these asinine political times. However, I am very glad I got a black gun before all the madness started. Now I am just stockpiling the projectiles.

As for a plan, I do not have one per-say "on the books" rather, I am building up the supplies. I need to get the medical supplies going as well.

One has to start somewhere and I am better off now then I was a year ago and hope to be much better off a year from now.

I think medical supplies are a great thing to get. Medications and supplies would be to trade with and the more obvious to use for emergencies. I have sutures, a stapler, staple remover and of course all the usual supplies. On top of the normal supplies I have a box full of extras.

I do like what you said about not putting to much info on here. There would be nothing worse than fellow RME'ers taking advantage. Like you said I have no problem using deadly force to stop taking what is mine and my wife's survival. I will help out where I can but won't put my family at risk.

This is a completely public forum no matter how much you trust the current members. I have no problem talking preparedess concepts in a generic sense, but I'd suggest if anyone wants to discuss specific self defense preparedness with me, we do it in person.

I keep 42 gallons of diesel in my Excursion almost all the time. You could call it prepping for the shock at the pump if I let it get empty. Plus it will fit my entire family if a bug out is needed.
I rotate a couple 50 gal drums of water and also store 10 or so gallons in used/cleaned Langer juice containers.
We keep some food and toiletries on hand since we always buy cases.

With my addictive inclination, prepping is something I fear a little. Before you know it I'd have 10 years worth of shampoo in the basement.

I keep my truck at half tank as much as possible, which is pretty much anytime it hits half tank now. It a good habit IMHO
