Price utah trails

Rick, I think Stratton (gravesdiggerxj) put it well. Its a catch 22 without an obvious answer. That's for this case. If something is closed, the rule would be that it's in our best interest to respect the area land managers. For example, coyote canyon in Moab. Respecting the closure is in our best interest to getting the route designated eventually. For Price, it's a little gray. Which is why I say that it's closed, but I wouldn't be too harsh on someone running the trails. It's something of a unique case. I hope that whether we're on those trails or not that we'll all keep them in mind as a a future battle to be fought. Practically however, once something's off the map, it's nearly impossible to get it on the map without major user/BLM cooperative efforts. Price is a weird one, so many active users (4x4 and MC), yet we still had this problem. It's going to take a lot of user interest and organizational support to get the situation fixed.

Man its a bummer to read all this. Its happening a bunch these days all over. Sounds like a really fun area...

It really is a fun area. The dumb thing about it is that Price has a hard time attracting any kind of tourism and the 4 wheeling scene was starting to come into town and bring in revenue... but as soon as that started to pick up steam the BLM had to do the RMP and lost the trail data that was submitted for the trails. Now who knows anybody that travels to Price just to wheel anymore? Nobody.

Only thing left is gas drilling rig sight seeing.

If the same situation were here it would seem like what Carnage Canyon was in Boulder, CO. It was under a closing status for a few years before it actually closed and all continued to use it. The FS promised to make a new trail through the area, which did happen, but then it stalled because of winch points .

Any way, this sounds like it is but it isn't. If the BLM manager says its OK to run until the issue is solved I'd run it :-\. Especially if nothing is gated or blocked. But you guys prolly for sure have different rules.

I've tried to go to work out there and will continue to, it would be a bummer to get the opportunity to move out there and then have the trails closed, for sure. Maybe they didn't want it to turn into Moab (which would be good, not bad), who knows how non-wheelers think. I would think they would invite the revenue???

As most of you know I am from Price and have grown up running around that area(dirt bikes), the trails that are marked by the local club are few and in my day never even considered to ride on, for the most part they are washes that get very little natural activity during a rain storm and very little moisture from snow runoff. the
occasional flash flood will fill them up though.

But for rock crawling they are great, since the closers i still have been running around the area on dirt bikes and quads and still have no interest to go on the designated trails on a bike or quad. But I check them every time I drive by for usage and there is some local usage. I would be ecstatic to have a sort of organized trail run in again, I only made it to one run and it was a blast.
So what is the consensus from those here on this forum yes or no and im good either way.

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
I'd say email the local BLM person and see if you could get specific permission to run the given trails that you want to run. If you had a copy of the email giving you permission in your rig during the run, you couldn't get in trouble. Then leave the trail in better shape then you found it.
