Get some better ones, please.. Next time have someone that hasn't drank 3 pots of coffee hold the camera! :p

What made you choose Sway Aways over another brand? Are they 2.5's or 2.0's? And what weights are the coils?

3 things were factors in choosing the SAWs. First, they were new and sitting in my buddies basement, second, the price was right, :D third, I've run them before on my second comp rig and they worked well. If I were buying new I may have gone with 12".

Right now they're 175 over 250, but we have a small inventory of spring weights to play with once we need to dial in. BTW, these don't have remote reservoirs, which is a plus in my book.

Dang good reason for the SAW's... ;) Did you chose the 175/250 or is that what came with it?

Any reason you dislike (or would rather not have) reservoir shocks?

I've been eyeballing the SAW's, Fox's and Rancho's. All reservoir style and with probably 125 over 250 on all 4 corners. Probably 16" 2.5's up front and 14" 2.0's in the rear. I'm liking the Rancho's because they are adjustable (by the knob, not changing their valving or in cab with their kit) and they are much cheaper than the others.. But I'm not sure how well they will work or last?

Main reason for not wanting res shocks is I don't need them. The res is to keep the shocks cool during prolonged use over rough terraing, i.e. dessert racing. I don't plan on doing high speed desert racing, so the shocks shouldn't heat up. I don't need/want the extra baggage of the res just for the cool factor.

I've run SAWs, Kings, and Fox, and love them all. Don't know how long Rancho has been into the co scene, but they usually put out a good product.

The 175 over 250 was what I was told was just a bit heavier than stock and I want the extra to compensate for the winch up front.

I'm waiting for some pictures from Moab. I got it down there the first weekend of Safari, and found a few bugs to work out. I didn't get the panels in for the front of the rear wheel well and the body work was rough, but it worked pretty well.

I need to replace the in tank fuel pump, replace a rear axle seal, find a tiny leak by my ARB compressor, limit my front end from dropping way down, and finish the body work. Oh, it's also getting 37s very soon. : ) It was fun to get it back out on a trail.

I also need to figure out what happened to my sons 4Runner. We were heading out to Hell's Revenge when he pulled down into the sand by Dump Bump. Went to put it in gear and NO GO. Didn't make a sound or a smell, just wouldn't engage in a gear. Didn't matter what gear in the tranny or either t-case, it didn't move. We dragged it back to the trailer and towed it home when we left. Will be tearing apart soon.

Still waiting for pics from Moab, but made more progress last night on the quarter panels.

This is how it looked in Moab, and just before cutting the rolled lip off.

I had a friend make these panels. It's amazing how a skilled person can do these in about 20 minutes, and it would have taken me about 8 hours. He matched the rolled edge perfectly.

I cut the factory rolled edge off the existing quarter panel first then clamped the new panels in place to mark where to cut. Then my bad welding skills came into play. I thought I'd get them both cut and welded, but only got the right side finished. I decided not to rush the fitting part and make it a good fit. That made a lot of difference. I did get the edge cut off the other side and the panel roughly cut to the size.

After I fit, grind and finish these I'll build some structure behind them In fact I may seal them off and build 6x9 speaker opennings in the front of the wheel wells. I'm also going to lenghten the rockers and build a support from the frame so I don't crush the new panels.

It's also getting 37" tires very soon.

Finally more progress

After Safari I welded on the front of the rear quarter panels and then took a break. I started back working on it 3 weeks ago because I'm going to Moab on the 14th. When I added the first bondo to the quarters it was apparent that without some structure to hold them they would flap around.

I decided to stretch the rockers I had and was able to get about half a new rocker that was a second. I measured the mounting tabs and added almost half the length on the passenger side, then took the part I cut off and added it to the drivers side. You can see in the pic where it's welded.

After getting those finished, painted and mounted I was able to finish the outside body work and finally get it in primer. Oh yeah, you might notice the new wheels and 37" tires.

Since I'm leaving for Moab on Thursday and I wanted to address a couple of other problems I had the last time I went I took it to a friend to have him finish some critical things.

First, he mounted the front winch. I'm so stoked to be able to control the front droop. I still have to mount some in cab switches, but the winch is there.

I had him add a new brace from the frame to the back of the rockers to reinforce that area knowing it's a weak spot.

I still have some small issues to finish but I'm close to being ready. I need to finish everything tonight because I'm packing tomorrow night and Thursday morning for MOAB.

Very nice, Bart. I like the way the front limit winch was mounted.

Wish we were heading to Moab with you, but then again it's gonna be HOT down there. :)

Is that a HF little winch? If so, plan on that cable not lasting very long. 1/4" winch rope is pretty cheap though. :)

BTW, the HF winch on the back of my former buggy is still going strong.

Yep, it was cheaper to get a new HF 2000 winch than buy a soloniod for my Warn 1700 so I could run it with a switch. I already have a nice new rope for it, but it may not get on before I leave on Thursday. I also have to run the wire and switches into the cab.

How's that Warn solenoid work out? (have you used it?) I made my own using 4 40 amp relays, but I imagine that integrated solenoid would be cleaner and quicker.

Should be the same one they use on the ATV winches, they are :greg:
