Impressive. Doing any additional cooling to maintain that frequency? What MB are you using? I can't get my 3.0 much faster than 3.25 before seeing problems.
that is on air...stock HSF...full load 65 C, that is a little hot so I might knock down the vcore and see if I can get it sub 60... This is on a gigbyte board i picked up on clearance GA-8N-SLI:rofl:

I only use Corsair XMS unless the person I'm building for is cheap, then I only use Corsair XMS  no I'll use Corsair Value Select if they are cheap.

heck, go AMD, for sure - the amd dual cores kick intels dual cores butt ... a much better architecture ... faster and cheaper ... and OC much better

No they don't. I've been an AMD guy for years, but the core 2 duo's are kicking the crap out of all things AMD, and I mean bad.

OK so one of us is way off... could be me, but the listed FSB is quad pumped, no? The actual FSB is 1066Mhz/4= 266Mhz.

I am running the Intel D 805 2.66Ghz CPU. The listed FSB is 533Mhz. 533Mhz/4= 1.33FSB. I am positive that this is the working FSB on this chip. CPUz and Bios verified. The 805 is 133Mhz x 20 (cpu multiplier)= the rated 2.66Ghz

I also have a 3Ghz prescott that is listed at 800 FSB, once again quad pumped from 200 FSB

I don't have an E6700 but I would bet that it is running a 266Mhz FSB with a 10x multiplier to get to 2.6Ghz

Like I said Maybe I am way off...but I don't think so. ;)

Core 2 Duo's run 1066 FSB, they also have NOTHING to do with a P4... they are based on a PIII, which is based on a PII which is based on a pentium pro.

Well, it's been a year since I built my fx55, then moved to an opteron. A quick check here still shows amd walking away with the gaming benchmarks

Intel owns suicides

Intel has math

intel owns sandra multi-media

hmmm, I guess intel finally got their act together. So I take that back ... If you are gaming, AMD still has it (there on chip memory controllers and dual interal buss to cpus) kick on memory transfer, likely why they still win the gaming benchmarks.

But like someone asked, if your are doing video/audio encoding, looks like the intel is the choice

You are right, a $600 AMD will marginally out do a $300 core 2 duo on games, but the intel spanks the amd on everything else and you can OC the E6600 from 2.4 to 3.5 on AIR.

Now when the quad core (on die) AMD comes out it will most likely out do the quad core intel since the Intel is just 2 core 2 duo's BUT Intel will follow suit with a true quad core a few months after AMD. Right now the list of programs that reccognize more than two cores is very short though.

I just quad pumped myself, does that make me a P4?

Intel abandoned the P4 microarchitecture because it's a lemon.

LOL ...fine by me, my point was the e6700 c2d only needs PC2 4200 DDR2 533. I used the 805 and the prescott to demonstrate how the FSB intel claims is not the bus speed that you would use to match your RAM speed to the FSB...but feel free to explain some more about P4s....read the link I posted.

Maybe the best advice I can give is not to get hardware advice on a 4x4 forum... good luck
Found you a link...http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=487618

 yes, very true! especially from me..

Along with the link provided above ... here are a few that I used to build my machine;

This one is very laid back, but with lots of old timers that are very good. OCZ memory also uses this site as a support site ... they have their own dedicated forums here .... go their and ask them questions on your proposed build.

Bleeding Edge

This one is loaded with excellent information, likely the best ... but a more intense forum with more wading required:

xtremeSystems

Both of these sites will have dedicated forums on cpu's, mobo, memory, power, cooling etc.

There are also excellent sites for mobo support ... the DFI one is run by USA hired DFI employees (most mobo's are made in Taiwan)

DFI Street

Almost as good a reason as any to get a DFI mobo is because of this site! They also make a super hi-preformance mobo ... some of them are almost too over clockable ... and hence can be harder for the novice ... but the people onf this site will help you through!
