I have a welder, I can weld, but I can't weld anything worth putting my own weight on. ha
So, are you good enough to weld a tube bumper?

I am looking into getting a tube bumper done up that would double as an air tank. I figure I could pay one of you instead of a shop (you know, stimulate the economy).

It would be similar to this but no bends:

The hitch mounts to the frame so no worry about having the hitch as part of the bumper. It would go on a full-size.

Big tubing... Not sure if many guys can bend you 3" tube around here. Ther bigger the tube the easier it will dent so my vote is you do it in 1.75. It just so happens I have a 1.75" bender, Looks like an easy bumper so Im gonna say between $200-$ could be more or less depending on exactly what you want. Pm if interested.

Not sure I'd want someone to build me a bumper that missed an important detail and tried to push me into doing something other than what I spec'd. Who knows if the finished product would come out how I wanted or how the "builder" wanted.

It would be straight, no bends. Just thinking out loud here... would the full-size look better with the 3" or 1.75"? For some reason I am thinking the 1.75" would look, well... wimpy, on a full size. I am completely open here though and welcome any ideas. Thanks!

If your not going to have any bends use whatever size tube you want but I agree, 1 3/4 would look WAY to small for that type of bumper. Plus you wouldnt have very much air capacity.

Where are you located? It might help someone decide if they wanted to tackle it or not

Ya, but the less work by just using brackets would bring the price down. I am ok with just using the bottom bar for air.

That was also my first thought when I saw it and would be easy to do. I wonder how much air it would hold and how many tires it would fill.

If you're in draper go to Jordan applied tech center (just off 700e and 9000s) talk to mr damill and I garntee you can get it done for cheep.

Here is another option. Don't do a tube bumper. Just my opinion, but no matter what size the tubing, tube bumpers will always look weak, and 80's. If you are truly set on having a bumper that holds air, you could do that with any bumper, so long as you enclose it all. Get some rectangular tubing, maybe 3" x 1" or slightly bigger, similar to this style:
