Okay, this is my rant i guess, and i may be out of line, thick skin so tell me what ya think.

internet ad(i won't dime him out) was *yr/make*vehicle being parted out, no prices or details. I call the guy.

me: hey, u, this is me, you still have the *vehicle* parting out?
him: yes.
me: do you have the alternator and starter?
him: yes.
me: i'd like some extras as spares. how much do you want for them?
him: i don't know, make me an offer.
me: uh, okay, 20$ a piece.
him: uh, i don't know, how about i give you a call?
me: well tell me what you want for them.
him: i don't know, i'd like to sell the engine complete.
me: how many miles on this?
him: 150K
me: look, not sure that anyone will pay a whole lot for a 150K mile engine, and if they need one, they'll already have a starter and alternator. And with 150K on them, they prolly aren't worth much more than a core charge.
him: i'll give you a call. i don't want to sell anything cheap.
me: okay, do you have the tranny?
him: yes
me: how much do you want for it?
him: uh i don't know, make me an offer?
me:rolleyes: okay, 50$ for the tranny.
him: uh, i don't want to sell anything cheap. let me give you a call.
me: how much do you want for it then?
him: let me give you a call

look people, if you have something to freaking sell, put A PRICE ON IT, and don't get bound up if you get a low ball. it's called negotiation. i mean is this ad a feeler? this is RME, not ebay
i buy a lot of stuff from people on this site, and it almost always goes like this: i call, you, got this for sale? yes...can i come over and pay you cash right now for it? yes, okay, be right there. dude gets payday. simple as that!

don't even get me started on the guy that had two jeeps for sale in bumfufu utah, and i freaking drove 3 hours to see them, offered him what he wanted, without negotiating the price down, WE SHOOK HANDS, i told him i'd be back like the next day, i had to borrow a tow vehicle and car hauler, and after i did all that, the POS tells me he changed his freaking mind. that costs me a lot of time and $ wasted. where i'm from, a deal with a handshake is a real agreement.

i know i sound like a jerk with this post and i'm not, i'm just a wheeler like all of you who has a garage with way too many broken down 4x4 parts.

aahh, now i feel better about getting this all off my chest.:D

I agree with you, if it is for sale put a price on it, or be prepared to negotiate a price, and when a price is agreed on honor that price. I bought a lift and tires from a guy (not on RME) once for a set price, drove all the way down to Cedar, when I get there it's still on the vehicle, so being the nice guy I am, I help take off the lift and tires, then he has the stones to ask if I can possibly give him more than we originally agreed upon.

Nothing bothers me more than ads without a price. I thought that the mods were going to start taking down feeler ads. In my opinion, an ad without a price is just that.

And I know those people who place those ads get all uptight when someone posts telling them they will give them $5 for a truck, but if they don't put a price they have no right to be upset when they get low balled. If you put best offer, and $5 is the best offer you get, then to me it looks like someone just got themselves a truck for $5.

RME is a group of people who have a common interest trying to help each other out. Most of the time not knowing each other just wanting to help one another enjoy the sport.

If you post a price or agree to one honor it. Your word is your bond. Put yourself in the buyers shoes. If you wanted something and agreed to a price than went to pick it up and where told "I changed my mind", '"I want $30.00 more." how pi**ed off would you be.

If you cant honor your word you have nothing.

For the most part the people I've bought stuff from here have been great. It's been like making a new friend in a hello and handshake.

Sorry you ran into a jerk.

I have had good experiences pretty much on here. All of mine went like this. Hey you still got this for sale? Yeah- Ok will you take this amount? Then they show up and they give me the money and they are gone usually within 5 minutes. Or if I'm the buyer and I know what I want to pay. It goes the opposite.

Ive never had someone not honor the price but........getting to that price has been a joke a lot of the time. Put a price on something for sale. If its way high....be prepared to negotiate or not sell.

Your not a jerk, if you don't price your part expect someone to cal you with a way low price. How the hell is the buyer supposed to know you want a fortune for a piece of S***. I would feel the same way you do, its irritating to me that people think they can charge a fortune for something that is no where near what the thing is really worth. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience.

I had an experience just this week trying to purchase a part from a KSL ad. The ad says make an offer, no price is listed. I called and talked to him, I told him my offer, and my reasoning behind coming up with that price, he agrees to the price, we agree on payment terms, and the deal is done (right?). Unfortunately the phone call was made 10 minutes before I had to get on a plane to head out of town (seller was fully aware of this). The plan was to head to the local shop where the part is located the day after I get back, pay them, and pick up my part. 30 minutes after I get back into town I get a call saying someone offered more money, and I would have to match that offer or we don't have a deal. We made a deal. We agreed on all the terms. Oh well, I'll just buy new. Screw it.

All your arguments are perfectly logical. I've only had a problem with changing offers once and it was not an RME member. Luckily the new terms he offered me were IMO better than the original terms to begin with.

Had a similar thing happen with someone selling a welder on this board. Agreed on a price, was set to leave in 15 minutes to go and pick it up after getting off work early, making a trip to the bank to get the cash, etc. The guy calls me and says that someone else called and offered him a better deal so ours is off. It's amazing how so many people have so little integrity.

makes me feel good about myself. I sold a set of doors to camcruiser and as I was waiting for him to show someone offered me twice as much, I told them if I hadn't already struck a deal I would have sold to them but cam and I were both already on the way to meet.
