I tried to tell you try spybot. PC tools sucks good luck trying to get a refund.

Yup, me too...I even spelled it out... We're not getting any love in this thread :-\

I'll say it again, if PC Tools is the only one to find it, it's most likely a virus FROM PC Tools. And now you know it's not only a virus, but a trojan horse virus.

The virus Rich mentioned earlier was the same virus my buddy had on his laptop, which AVG found and removed.

Did AVG finish scanning in safe mode? Or did you interrupt it for PC Tools? Did you try the freebe version of McAfee from Comcast?

Huh, you said AVG, which I tried, allowed it to fully scan in both regular and SAFE mode and it still hasn't picked up the virus the Spyware Doctor found.

"Anyway, AVG is free.. I'd give it a try."

"Try the free version of AVG"

I'll say it again, if PC Tools is the only one to find it, it's most likely a virus FROM PC Tools. And now you know it's not only a virus, but a trojan horse virus.

Its that really a probability? The software is recommended all over the internet by places like PC World and other magazines. And its NOT the software that it trys to tell me to by if I follow the links in the fake windows firewall messages.

The virus Rich mentioned earlier was the same virus my buddy had on his laptop, which AVG found and removed.

Again, simlilar MO, but a different virus. AVG did not find it.

No, I let it run fully, never picked it up.

And I followed your link. My computer doesn't have ANY of the associated file names related to that virus, not a single one. So your link had 100% 0 relevance to the files that are on my computer. Not sure how that was going to solve my problem?

Oh and to add to my frustration. I tried to uninstall AVG, it won't, tells me it as an error and to email AVG.

Formatting is looking like a better option with all the crap I've tried downloading in the last couple of days :D

Just ribbin' ya Kurt ;)

Can't help on the uninstall problem, never seen it before :(

Hopefully Brett and his possi can help tomorrow.... I'm sure it can be fixed without a full system wipe. I'm sure I could fix it, but I'd need access to the PC so that I can go into the registry and etc. Because if the virus keeps coming on at reboots, then there is a call in the registry starting it.

How do I give you access? :greg:

Thanks Wayne, I'll give you a ring in a bit.

I rebooted in Safe mode and ran Spyware Doctor, it picked up everything and supposedly deleted it all. I rebooted and I havn't seen my virus back... yet. Its running a full system scan now (did just my one drive last time).

Thanks for all the help guys! Buy a Land Cruiser or go on a extended trip in Southern Utah so I can offer some pointers :D

 I knew it could be done without wiping the drive... ;) Just needed to find the right combination!

Well, better news. The XTGO virus has been wiped. But I am still getting popups whenever I launch firefox. Going to keep running the softwares to try and find out what spyware is doing it.

Looks like a full format is going to be the only way to really clean this thing off

Brett & Steve came over and helped out on Saturday (thanks again guys!). The virus is attacking my system restore files and moving itself around during the virus scans. Its attacked Firefox (we reinstalled and in minutes it was already monitoring it). I've got PC Tools, AVG and McAfee running scans and they are constanly finding the same ones in different places. It keeps quarantining files, to the point system files I need are quarantined. Reboot time.

Brett, do you have the disks I need? Steve checked my XP and its a legit copy, so I just need the disks to reload it and Office hopefully.

I'd still like a crack at it...What do you have to loose? :D

I have a stripped down version of XP, probably not exactly what you'd want. I know Steve would have a full version for you to use. Office, which version do you want? ;)

I have several copies of Dell XP discs. They are full pro versions. Not sure if that helps...? They don't come with COA's, so if there isn't a pro COA these probably wouldn't work.
