Roll cage legality for street use?

It looked everywhere and can not tell if having a roll cage would be legal for a daily driver. Anyone have any info? I just would like to know before I put a roll cage in my 4Runner to find out it's illegal. Thanks in advance!

I have never heard of one being illegal or failing on a safety insection, unless the eyebrow or center bars block visibility. Then you may have an issue.

Jeeps have them from the factory.

There is nothing illegal about them.

It should go down as extra credit on the safety "test". Maybe it could replace other stupid safety items, like the e-brake.

Might be a crazy question, but a valid one. Newer cars have air bags in the roof, doors, dash, etc. How well a cage has been fabricated and installed may bring concern. Does the cage tie into frame rail?

Usually if you put a cage in a car or truck you are saying that it's not a matter of if but when.
