A friend from Iowa just bought an 07 Diesel Jetta for his wife and they love it. Same thing as you, they love the mileage and it's fun to drive.

That sucks to hear, what year was yours? I had a friend who had a TDI Beetle an it was one engine problem after problem. He'd fix one problem and get it back up running only to have another right away. At that point I realized there were some lemons in the VW/TDI family. I'm hoping that with 7 years and 150k miles on the car, all the possible big problems have been sorted thru.
It was a 2003. I had it for 14 months before it was totalled and I don't recall a single day of owning it that didn't involve some problem. VWs are really hit or miss, my neighbor had a TDI and loved it.

I have a buddy that bought a new one (I think it was 06) with the bigger body style. I really liked it and would love to get one and put some money into the motor. A nice, larger, sleeper car that gets 50 mpg. Bitchen!

the newer jetta's aren't hippie. They are bigger and nicer looking. The older ones you have to be a cheerleader to drive--but at least the motor is cool. ;)

...VWs are really hit or miss...

For Sure! I had my Jetta for 4 years or so and didn't have any real issues (Mass Air Flow sensor was it). But mine had a weird engine code so all my parts were dealer only and most had to be ordered from Germany (even my freaking air filter and brake pads :(). On the other hand, probably 95% of the people I've known that have owned a VW (specifically a Jetta) for any amount of time have had nothing but problems, it's really hit or miss, and when they run good they are fun little cars for sure.

I was having to replace MAFs every 3 months at ~$100 a pop, otherwise the car didn't have enough power to climb Parley's in fifth. Shitty Bosch electronics. I'd like another TDI for the fuel economy but I've been burned bad enough that I will never own another VW if they paid me.

I like it...very sexy especially with a hot looking male in it.
You let your pool boy drive it already?!?! :p
We're so happy with the Jetta, we were talking about selling her 2000 4Runner & my Dodge diesel P/U in exchange for a 4 door Dodge diesel. Kill 2 birds with one stone, you know? The weird thing is that I wasn't even thinking about doing that, but it's starting to make sense at this point.

You know, those 4 door Dodge's get great mileage (I average 20 around town and 22 on the highway) and they sure are nice when you start adding kids to the equation.... :D

Ok, here's the pics. The last few are from above Telluride, our roadtrip destination today. You're looking at the Black Bear Pass, Telluride side.-

Oh... we got 545 miles out of the first tank of fuel. Driving from Denver to home, around town, then down to Telluride and back to Ridgeway where I fueled up. I did the Ventectomy (removed the vent in the fuel filler) yesterday & added more capacity. This car rocks. :greg:

How was Telluride? Did it look like there was still a bunch of snow in the mountains? We ran up to Silverton on Sunday and got turned around on both roads we tried. The snow is almost gone, it's just the avalanches now.

It didn't look too bad, I think by the beginning of July the roads will be clear. We're planning on running Black Bear first off, mabey even make a 2-3 day event out of being down there. If we can get Catherine's Silverton house connection, we'll be all over it.
