It was a 2003. I had it for 14 months before it was totalled and I don't recall a single day of owning it that didn't involve some problem. VWs are really hit or miss, my neighbor had a TDI and loved it.That sucks to hear, what year was yours? I had a friend who had a TDI Beetle an it was one engine problem after problem. He'd fix one problem and get it back up running only to have another right away. At that point I realized there were some lemons in the VW/TDI family. I'm hoping that with 7 years and 150k miles on the car, all the possible big problems have been sorted thru.
I have a buddy that bought a new one (I think it was 06) with the bigger body style. I really liked it and would love to get one and put some money into the motor. A nice, larger, sleeper car that gets 50 mpg. Bitchen!
You shoulda got the TDI and had both power & performance... a chip & a set of injectors in a TDI will make near 300 ft/lbs, and still get 50 MPG. I might add a set of injectors... thinking hard about the chip.
Check out www.vwvortex.com. LOTS of VW info! This was my bible for both my VW's.
Definitely check out VWVortex.com. Also specifically for the TDI, dig into TDIClub.com.
...VWs are really hit or miss...
For Sure! I had my Jetta for 4 years or so and didn't have any real issues (Mass Air Flow sensor was it). But mine had a weird engine code so all my parts were dealer only and most had to be ordered from Germany (even my freaking air filter and brake pads ). On the other hand, probably 95% of the people I've known that have owned a VW (specifically a Jetta) for any amount of time have had nothing but problems, it's really hit or miss, and when they run good they are fun little cars for sure.
You let your pool boy drive it already?!?!I like it...very sexy especially with a hot looking male in it.
We're so happy with the Jetta, we were talking about selling her 2000 4Runner & my Dodge diesel P/U in exchange for a 4 door Dodge diesel. Kill 2 birds with one stone, you know? The weird thing is that I wasn't even thinking about doing that, but it's starting to make sense at this point.

[You know, those 4 door Dodge's get great mileage (I average 20 around town and 22 on the highway) and they sure are nice when you start adding kids to the equation....
That is better than my 4 runner! Greg are you reading this??? Maybe a 4 door silver beauty with a sexy hot male in it. Not to mention greg and I don't have a pool...
How was Telluride? Did it look like there was still a bunch of snow in the mountains? We ran up to Silverton on Sunday and got turned around on both roads we tried. The snow is almost gone, it's just the avalanches now.
If we can get Catherine's Silverton house connection, we'll be all over it.
What is this "house connection"?
Come on, we told you guys about it! Ask your wife, I bet she knows!
