Sipped MT vs AT or Discoverer ST

Other issue I have with Monty is it is time for new tires.

As far as I know at this point, only 33" tire that fits easily is a 255/85R16 (I am still trying to find out how much trimming it will take to run 285/75).

The 255/85 is not availible in a BFG All-Terrian. Main tire options I would have would be BFG MT (or some other mud-terrians), which I could have sipped, or Cooper Discoverer ST.

For off-road, durability/tread life and handling on snow and ice, what are thoughts on sipped MTs?

Anyone have expereince with the Discoverer ST?

I had my BFG M/Ts sipped and they do pretty good on the snow and ice. When there is a bunch of slush or snow on the roads they work better than the A/Ts since the channel the water better and not clog up. They also don't hydroplane like the A/Ts. On the ice or packed snow they are not quite as good as the A/Ts but a lot better than non sipped or MTRs. They also work better on the rocks. With them sipped I got better wear than I thought and have about 85% tread after 16,000 miles with rotating them every 6,000 but my truck is lighter than a Montero.

I have run the Cooper ST Loved them got a lot of miles out of them as well as great traction.

Glad to hear. Did some price shopping this week and pretty sure that is the way I am going to go.

Any problems with sidewalls, esp when aired down?

One of my four stt got a little chewed up on some sharp rock fins. They had a little chunking but still hold air great. It was only one too so it makes me wonder if that one had some defects? All four tires have had similiar treatment.
