Smaller Toy Haulers...Do they Exist?

Just got back from Moab. (mtn bkn) Camped next to us was a enclosed trailer for hauling motorcycles and what have you. Nothing special. But on the rear left it had a slide out like a tent trailer. It was only a bed, but looked functional and nice.

Yes, they do have them. We looked at one before we bought our last camp trailer. It was super nice inside (for a toy hauler), the toys were stored in the front of the trailer and you could fit several bikes, two quads, or probably one utv. It was an ultralight/super lite so the loaded weight was something like 7500lbs. I'll see if I can find it again, the trailer was at the dealer next to Camping World. I think it was a Jayco. Also check out the Jayco Octane ZX Super Lite. Overall length is just over 20' and can carry 3K lbs. I personally don't care for toy haulers because the interiors are always a sacrifice. Pay the same amount on a same-sized non-toyhauler and you'll have a way nicer trailer. However, if you are going to be dragging the toys around with the camper, then it's tough to beat a toy hauler. Since I'd only ever have a single bike with me, I just threw the bike in the bed of the truck and got a traditional trailer.

But if you've seen my past track record, I like buying and selling and trying new things.

I guess this is forum sarcasm and I should have snapped earlier.

A small toy hauler that can be pulled with a toyota and is a hard side with little set up time. I am not sure I have ever seen such a thing that wasn't some sort of a pop up styled camper.

What is the max tow rating on your tundra? 8,000-10,000 lbs max?

As I mentioned above, the Jayco Octane ZX Super Lite. http://www.jayco.com/products/toy-haulers/octane-zx-super-lite Hell, if I was careful on what I loaded, my Tacoma could haul it, his Tundra would have no problem. I have seen others that are just as small/light.

I'd never pull doubles...even if I had a dually diesel.

Do the toys have to be enclosed? My post had a hardside with bunks that fold out like a tent trailer, and then a rack on the front. That way you can be in the trailer even when it is loaded up, just maybe not with the front bunk out.

My one advice (if it's not too late) is only look at what you are willing to spend. When we first looked at trailers, I intended to get a simple tent trailer. Then my wife strayed away and ended up in some of the full camp trailers...one thing led to another and we ended up with a 32' fully loaded special ordered trailer  The big nice ones (like I'm sure Paul's is) are just that, big and nice but they do cost a pretty penny. When we had ours, we used the crap out of it. We were in it probably 30 weekends a year at least and a few longer stays. We loved it and never regretted getting it. I guess the only downside was that it was so large that getting in to some of the places we liked to go was no longer reasonable, but we still thoroughly enjoyed it.

I've never had a problem with the hybrids. Until the Knolls race. It was so windy and the fold out material was just flapping around. I didn't really mind it but I know my boy wouldn't be able to sleep with the noise and that's what turned me off from that style. I'd really prefer the toys to be inside but if I find a good layout with the exterior deck then I will go for one of those.

Why did you get rid of it?

Why did you get rid of it?

Its against Calebs religion to keep anything he buys longer than a year. Pretty sure you belong to the same???

Ive been looking at smallish toy haulers for awhile now. It makes me sick how crappy the accommodations are and how expensive the trailers are.....just because they have a fold down rear door. But hopefully I will find something soon.

Cool. We've been looking for a piece of land for a cabin. I figure I can take the camper there and use it as a cabin until we build.

We set our budge at 15k, or close to that. But we've been looking at 25-30 campers. It's hard not to. I will try my best to stick close to the budget though.
