well after some well deserved comments about my skinny pedal usage I now have a new user ID

Thats more fitting:D

Update on my Scout

I got it running and boy does it smoke from the oil on the exhaust. The oil leak was a dent/tear in the oil filter which is good but one motor mount is gone. Good thing I bought motor mounts 5 years ago and never got around to replacing them. The top of the whole front end is sitting back a few inches so the fan went into the radiator a little so I'll have to get a better look at it later to see if its going to work out. The Hydroboost/PS is acting crazy but I'm hoping it will be fine when I get the air out of the system. It looks like someone went crazy in the engine bay w/ a sledge hammer. It seems crazy the damage that the engine caused to the metal in there. I hope to get it driveable before the snow starts coming:sick:

Yes this guy was in the wrong for taking that short cut, maybe we should put a sign up down there the next outing, i went up that once thinking it was a trail, "i mean come on it looks pretty well used" I got chewed out on here also and have learned and now i check to make sure where i can go.theres alot of newbies which we all were at one time that just dont know what is and what is not a trail, i will be going out there in a couple weeks and if nobody has put up a sign I will.

Thanks for the defense. He figured that it was the WW bypass & that we all were going that way. He figured being completly stock he might need to get a head start. We've never been there before. Next time we'll try to ask more questions:-\

Did you know that anytime anybody drives down to Wayne's World they are not on a trail. When we (Chili and me) first found the obstacle we were driving through and over the sagebrush to get there. So anytime you see a picture of rigs on Wayne's World they left the trail. If you ask me I see nothing wrong with the bypass up the hill. :)

this my be true but if you need to take a bypass to Waynes World then you really don't need to go any further up the trail do you.If you can't make it up Waynes World you have no excuse other then to turn around and go out the way you came in.there is nothing above Waynes World but more obstacles that you will not able to go around.well i guess this is not true anymore considering that people who think they belong on Constrictor try to work their way up the trail widening it to the point its a driveway till you get to Eagles Nest.hell even that is breaking apart to the point that a truck on 31's and open open will be able to do it without an challenge with in the next year or two.

unfortunatly your right badger, the road is getting easier and easier, Five mile is such a popular place to go these days. More and more people are getting into wheeling. People dont know what there rig can do well until they try it and test it. I agree if you cant make it with out moving all the rocks go back down. But dont get mad at them for trying. I took a few friends out there earlier this year to show them and teach them how to wheel. We just went on rattlesnake they were only in stock rigs. But they learned the basics on that trail but then we had a group from this site come up and tell them they did not belong there and to move. We all started somewhere, not all of us have the money to build buggy extreme toys. So remember the old saying share the trail, share the upkeep. And tell badger and meat to be nice lol:rolleyes:

Within 60 miles of the Wasatch Front there are literally thousands of mild trails to cut your teeth on, there are 2 rateable trails. If you aren't prepared to the point where you can traverse these trails without destroying them..... you shouldn't be on them.

Why do we constantly have to rehash this? I just informed them that they were on a bypass, then boom

I have no problem with learning and yes it does have to be done some where. There are signs at the beginning of both Rattlesnake and constrictor that clearly state what you will need to complete the trail.but how many time have i gone up there only to see a bunch of illiterate asshats that are on a trail they clearly do not belong on.

i moved here three years ago i found rattlesnake and drove up it .i was locked both front and back on 35's.i went to Waynes World and tried that.hell i even made it up it after a long fight.i got to the beginning of Constrictor ,read the sign got out of my jeep and walk the entire trail.could i have tried it yep.could i have made it to Eagles Nest yep.did i try nope.i didn't go up Constrictor till i had moved up to 36"s and full width axles because i knew better.

it breaks down to common sense and the main problem is that most people of the world lack it anymore.

I agree with you this time badger  common since is hard to find sometimes, I dont remember what the sign says for rattlesnake i just know my wife had no problem in her stock jeep at the time, but she made no attemp to go anywhere past that

I agree that these trails need to be respected and the rigs on them should be able to finish them, but if you give this incident ( an honest mistake in my opinion) so much attention why am I not seeing more attention givin to a person who drives onto a covered mineshaft?

We already got into it and we have PM'd the gentlemen about that, he kinda got his butt chewed and knows he was an idiot and hope he dont do it again, the reason this is getting attention is well i made the mistake of taking that same bypass and got reamed for it on here and lots and lots of people take that same bypass not many people are dumb enough to park on the mineshaft:confused:

Yeah was there when you took that bypass and didn't think it was a problem then but then again that was my first time ever up there. I think everyone who has seen this has gotten the point

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
I guess I don't understand. Friday was my first time to the 5 mile pass area. We ran rattlesnake, then turned down the trail to run WW, then back on the trail at the top of WW to run Constrictor. Are you saying that by going to WW we were off the trail, or by going straight and not hitting WW we would have been off the trail?
I'm not sure I agree with the comment about turning around if you cant run WW. What do you think Constrictor would be rated if the big water fall was not there? Not the 5 that it is, maybe a 3 or 3.5? Almost any rig could run the entire trail with a winch or a winch in the group. IMO.

If you can't make it up WW you are supposed to turn around and go out the way you came in, then turn right to go to Constrictor.

As to your other question, Constrictor would be rated a solid 5 without the waterfall if people who shouldn't be on it had never gone on it. People in underbuilt rigs have widened the trail so much that you can drive around almost every obstacle.

The debate about being off the trail was that one jeep was going up the side of the hill where the trail did not exist. the dscussion just evolved from there saying that all the bypasses were once not a trail

The guy that went off trail was IMO an honest mistake I thought it was a bypass it has been traveled several times but I was also corrected that it was not an existing trail as this area was new to me also.

But I think sometimes discussions like this actually helps because I know I will be more likely to ask people who have experience with trails before I attempt anything that I am not sure about

common sense goes along way though

I think I know what you are talking about. There is a "trail" maybe 15-20 feet before you get to WW that goes up the hill then comes out at the top of WW. That one would be a no-no.
That stinks about constrictor turning into a highway. I've lived here for 5 months and heard all this hype about these two trails. Now finally getting to run them, I was a little let down. The big water fall gave me all kinds of trouble, even on the winch, but other then that, not much to talk about. It was nice to get out though. And I will run them often.
Are there any other trails as good or better close by?

No, none. And there are thousands of roads for people to drive stock 4x4's on, THAT is why people get so heated when these two trails get abused.

Here's an early picture of the Eagle's Nest

And here are some early Constrictor threads some still have their pictures, as you can see it was a heated topic even then.

So whats the solution to this problem what action needs to be taken? I have searched and read alot of what people would like to do, I have read this thread and seen a few ideas but what do we need to do to take some action. Or is there a reason behind not doing anything about it?
