So I was going up Double Whammy and grenaded my Dana 300 lo range gears. About right here:

I was able to drive out in hi range but with quite a bit of unhappy noises.

So now what?

I have a 360/T400/Dana 300/14b-60 w/5.13s and soon to be 39.5s

Assuming the high range gears are ok, although I fear they aren't, do I put in the LoMax 4to1 like I've been thinking about. Or will this put me too low since I only have a 3 speed. My current gearing isn't bad, but lower would be nice if it's not going to be too much loss on the top end.

I could also try to find another 300 and swap over my twin stick and heavy duty output for a lot cheaper.

Also, some good friends are getting rid of the twin sticked Dana 20. Would this be a viable option, and would it bolt up?

Looking at this gearing calculator, I currently have a 33.21 final gear ratio, the 4to1 puts me at 50.89. Is that too low for an auto? Also it says that in low and 3rd gear I'm currently moving 548 ft/minute at 750 rpm the 4to1 is 358 ft/minute. That seems awfully slow for 3rd gear.

Now it's your turn.

There are no high range "gears" if you're in 2WD, it's straight through drive. 4 hi uses some gears of course...

50:1-ish can be great with an auto, it really depends on your torque converter how hard it pulls. (driving through the brakes at idle)

Let me know if you want to price a Tera 4:1 kit. :)

I'd do the 4:1. I think you'll be fine with the gears. You're going up in tire size from your current, so that'll compensate for that a little at the same time. :D

the 20 would never last under that kind of gears.... better off getting the lomax that is if you can get one... heard they are back ordered for a few months or so.... I think they were redesigning the gears to make them quieter or something....

good luck!!! be interested in hearing what you do so I can do it to my 300...

Interesting... I see a Google Ad for an Atlas II. :greg: BTW, I love my Atlas...

Stak cases seems nice too, I hear Mike @ Summit Machine has ordered a couple for certain folks on here.

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
We have 300 in a box with shiny black paint all over it, just waiting for a new home. I think Brad wants around $300 for it.

I'd love a 4 speed, but don't have an extra 3 grand. What are Staks going for these days?

Ha Ha Ha....(pointing and laughing):rofl:

I have the Terra 4:1 and a 2 speed auto. Its great for climbs and works well for compression braking. The only problem is that is can push though my brakes and that is after upgrading the system.

Ask Mike from Summit Machine he is a Stak dealer now. When I started adding up the price for low gears, output shaft and clocking kit for my d300 I started to ask the price of the Stak's

i put a rubicon tcase in my tj. i almost didn't because i thought it would be too low, but now having a couple of moab trips under my belt with it, i wouldn't go back. the 4 to 1 is awesome. to compare, my crawl ratio is 57.xxx

Dave All I have to say is that I didnt break it this time around but i will own up to the Last one. You find a 300 for under 300 bucks and I will pay for it if not I guess I will be sending mine your way

Wow it's great to see people set up and be honorable. Most people just say "your junk wasn't built good enough, it's not MY fault....!"

FWIW, you will need a complete rebuild on that transfer, your bearings are junk by now too, along with the remaining gears. That transfer for 300 sounds great as a replacment for now until you can afford an upgrade to 4:1 or Atlas (which has to be ordered and requires a long wait). If you ever though about aftermarket, now is the time.

BTW, sorry to hear about the Xfer, that dang Double-Whammy had been my achilles heel(and largest $ draw) for a few years. NOT any more :D

I'm 99% sure it's all stock. I think Brad has a twin stick around the shop somewhere we could put on it.

Well I would pay for the T-case with the sticks I just might need someone to take it down to him as I am currently working In Evanston so if someone was headed that way could they possibly deliver it

Oh yeah and as for the break down we all know how quirky Dave's Jeep is and I think it was Even seeing as how I had to pack a Battery and tools up to his jeep On top of Coyote to get it off of the trail becasue it just quit running due to some electrical Issues

I have a friend who has asked me to go to Moab next weekend, I don't know yet if I am going, but he might be willing to take it down for you. I am sure it would have to be brought up to Heber, but I can ask him if there are no other people/groups going.

Electrical issues? It's a Jeep, that's normal! Best thing you can do to a Jeep is rip out the wiring and replace it all.
