I do find it also ironic that the same people who are most opposed to higher pay also complain the most about social programs for low wage workers.
Okay now that i'm not at my second job I can compose a better thought. Also like Jeeper my family didn't have crap growing up. My father drove a clapped out Toyota corolla that would make Fred Flinstones car look like it had solid floors, my mom had a beater hand me down as well. We didn't have special things just happy to have a meal and a place to sleep. When my sister and I got a little older my mother was able to get a job which was great because we had a little extra income and as a bonus she was a food rep so we got some free food. Both my parents worked hard to provide. They NEVER took a welfare check. Hard work paid off for both and little more money came in. Education wasn't a priority instilled in my life growing up neither parent has a degree hell my mom doesn't even have a high school diploma. I wanted to be a diesel mechanic but we didn't have the money to pay for an education. Guess what I did, went in the military to get that money. Didn't ask for someone else to pay for it, didn't rack up thousands in debt and ask for it to be forgiven, I earned my money.
Fast forward in my life, I wanted to improve myself and wanted a different career. What did I do? No I didn't ask the government for a handout, no I didn't go on welfare. I worked overtime, saved my pennies and earned my flight certificates in less than a year working a full time job as a police officer. I still have no school debt, I sold everything of value I owned, worked more overtime and worked HARD to improve my situation and pay for that $75,000 worth the education on my own. I didn't come out of flight school expecting to make $400,000 the first year. Not like this entitled generation that wants free school and come out and earn CEO wages. I went to a $12hr flight instruction job. Did a good job there by working hard and earned an assistant chief position by WORKING HARD. Worked another job in Hawaii, took a $25hr paycut to go gain valuable experience. How did I do that, well it was a goal of mine so I saved money knowing I couldn't survive off the salary of the job I wanted. I didn't show up and expect the .gov to take care of me on my poverty wages. I'm still not making great money, however it will pay off in the future when I do land that nice airline job. But I had no expectation of having that wage straight out of schooling it must be earned from experience and effort.
Yes i'm opposed to socialism and social programs. Let's look at California, it should be the richest most prosperous state in the Union. Agriculture, business, ports what doesn't California have? But why is California one of the most highest taxed most oppressed states in the country. Paying millions of people to do nothing thats why.
I also heard on the radio that the power grid couldn't actually even support only 10% of people going to electric cars. anyone have facts on that?
My thoughts exactly, how taxed is our power grid already in the summer. Now you want to charge cars? Ohh and where does our power come from here, ohh yeah coal..... super clean EV power. Solar is great and all but several months of the year solar isn't a great option in our region.
It will be interesting to see what happens in California over the next few years. They've banned generators recently. This is another hammer in the nail for an Owner/operator truck driver in California.
Some counties have also already banned any new gas stations from being built
