Southwest Bike Trip : St:George or Mesquite

Hoping to get a trip planned for sometime this winter. I would love to get out of the cold and all of the snow. I was hoping we could get about 6-8 guys together to head down to St. George. We could stay the night at our place in St. George and either get up in the morning and ride some trails around there or we could drive down to Mesquite and ride down there for the day. Then we would head back up to St. George and either stay the night or head home late. We have places to sleep for 6 guys if the sleep separately. If anyone else is really good friends they could share a bed. I was thinking sometime in the beginning of January but if that is too soon we could make it a sometime mid to late January. The sooner the better but I am flexible. We could even do it more than once if wanted.

The only part I don't really want to put together is finding the trails. I know Russ knows a lot, if not all of the trails around St. George but he is out for a few months. He could let us know of any trails though. If we headed to Mesquite I have a friend down there that owns a sports store and they sell local trail maps. But there are also sources online obviously. I've just never really been a trip planner. But I figure if i'm willing to let everyone stay at my house and tow a trailer of bikes down then a few guys wouldn't mind finding some trails.

Here is a link to a review and video of a Mesquite trail. http://www.dirtbikefrenzy.com

So, who is interested in going and when is a good date?

I rode out there with Russ once. I think it was there. It seemed like a lot of random go wherever, follow any of the million trails. I'm sure there is a big loop or long single track somewhere there. I'm sure Russ while chime in.

I'm game for a trip in early January!

There are GPS coordinates in that link, for 3 different trail loops;

Cactus Loop 17.1 miles, Fort Pierce loop 19 miles, Dino Single Track 11 miles

Seems like a days worth of riding there, plus all the other minor trails.

Sounds good to me, and you wouldn't need to haul my bike! :D I think riding St George first, then researching Mesquite would be the best plan.

Even then, I would imagine some of the hard 4x4 Trails around St George would be a blast on dirt bikes.

So are you thinking of a Saturday-Sunday trip? Or come down Friday evening, ride Saturday & head home Sunday?

It'd be a come down Friday, ride Saturday, and come home Sunday trip. Hopefully that would work for everyone. We could also head down on a Thursday but I imagine most would prefer Friday.

Good to hear I don't have to haul your bike. That would be a trek!

Friday, Sat & Sunday would be great. Plenty of time to get there, ride and then head home.

Which weekend would you like? I'm fairly open.

Hopefully we can get a few more RME'ers in on this!

I'm also open. I can do any weekend I think. But would like to do the first or second weekend. I've written a few rme guys and hopefully some guys will see it throughout the day and post up. But I won't back out for just a 2 man trip. Ha.

Let's plan on the 2nd Weekend in January... the 10th, 11th & 12th. That will give everyone enough time to recover from the Holidays & prep the bikes for the ride!

Kyle & Kurt... lets go! :greg:

I will be down there from the 1st thru the 4th. If anyone wants to come down during that time. I will be taking my boy to the indoor MX the weekend of the 11th.

I'd be down! (Need to verify with wifey first though) of course I prefer a non-Sunday, but can drive my own vehicle. Sand hollow dunes are there.. But I imagine there are some great trails also.

I'm sending out my head for machining tomorrow , and am placing an order for almost everything else within a couple days. If I'm lucky I could have it together in time

I won't be riding on Sunday. We will just be waking up on Sunday, packing up, and cleaning (if we don't want to pay the cleaning fee) and heading home.

What's the chance of riding on Friday, if we get there early enough? I'd prefer more than one day of riding, if I'm making the drive to St George.

And if anyone wants to ride Sunday morning, I'd be game for a few hours before hitting the road.
