I'll pass on taking on the Dirty Devil on the dual sport... for now. ;)

USGS 09333500 DIRTY DEVIL R AB POISON SP WSH NR HANKSVILLE UT
Drainage area: 4159 mi2
Discharge: 117 cfs
Stage: 3.83 ft
Date: 2011-04-28 04:45:00
Percentile: 74.55 %
Class symbol:
% normal (median): 229.41 %
% normal (mean): 136.06 %

Just keep an eye on USGS.gov and just monitor when the major runoff has peaked. There was a 400cfs spike on Apr 26... probably the Tuesday storm that went through.

There pretty much isn't a subframe on the 450X :p. I've actually got the bags to support it, I have the Wolfman E-10 Enduro Saddle bags and duffel bag, they fit perfectly on my bike. However, I don't think my bike can support gas, water, sleeping gear, etc even with all the compact/lightweight stuff I have.

How much fuel does your 450 hold, Caleb? My DRZ-400 packs 4 gallons and can do about 200 off-road miles to empty. I think with a small bag up front, a backpack, and my Giant Loop bag this is a doable trip for my bike. I would need to acquire some compact camping gear.... all my stuff is the WalMart family camping variety.

I was just telling my wife this morning that I'm about due for another big ride like I did with Greg last fall! It's a 10 hour drive to Moab now, but my company will buy my gas to get there.:)

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
If we can keep the trails pretty tame, I'd be up for the shorter rides idea. Then retuning to base camp or a hotel each night. I'm not set up for a long haul either. Something like Greenriver or trails though out Moab would be nice.

We could have Jared pick everyone one up on his way, so gas would be cheap! ;)

I think Jared is coming from Phoenix these days...

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do, Friday evening is the RME BBQ in Moab which I'll be at. Beyond that, it's wide open. I would like to do some big touring rides to be honest, I'd like to head into the places mentioned, but avoid the Dirty Devil and Muddy Creek. Perhaps even ride beyond, since there will be a few days available.

Greg is almost right. I live near Tucson, two hours south of Phoenix for the time being. I would be happy to pick up anybody who is on my way though!

So this ride happened last weekend... Dirty Devil action...

I don't think I'll be attempting this during the Spring runoff.

I have ridden across that point in the Dirty Devil in the fall when the water flow was much lower. The bottom is full of some pretty good rocks that will throw you off balance......we had a less experienced rider dump over and we had to drain his bike. I would not even think about attempting a crossing with that type of flow.
