I'm calling it a night. Here's what I did today:

figured out a ghetto solution for the horseshoe collar. It looks ugly but it's strong and nobody will see it anyway.

My camera has been crapping out lately and doesn't like to focus. I think there was so much dust/fumes in the air that it couldn't focus. I'll take some better pics tomorrow.

I took more pictures, but they're so blurry you can't even tell what you're looking at.

Angle iron is a good idea, but it's too much work for me with the angle of the sides of the tunnel. if my tunnel were rectangular with vertical sides, then I would have been all over that like a fly on stink.

thanks for the encouragement 97SR5. I can't wait till the seats are installed. I thought it was going to be tonight, but it's not looking so good. I started cleaning the garage and wasted a lot of time there.

you could have left the angle horizontal and still brought your sides in on an angle, but any way looks great.. Wish it was my build..

Ok, now I see what you're saying. You're right, that would have been a lot stronger. Hopefully this is sturdy enough. It feels like it will be.

Wish it was my build..

Funny you say that, I thought the same exact thing when I was reading your build thread. I know that if it were your build it would look a lot nicer, work a lot better, and have a lot more cool features. Once it's rolling I'm going to be picking your brain for some of your great ideas.

Well, I spent the first half of the day scrounging parts from the junkyard. I think I have everything I need to get it going again.

Then I couldn't find my speedo extension, so I decided it was time to clean the garage. I only got 1/4 clean, but it's already feeling a lot better. But I didn't find the extension.

I started working on the truck around 10 PM tonight. I didn't get nearly as much done as I had hoped, but I didn't want to be hammering away, pounding at 2 AM. My neighbors are accommodating enough as it is.

Just added a little more to the frame, and cut some sheet to fill the hole in the back of the cab. It probably won't look any better than that smashed up, dented-in bump from before, but at least it'll be water-tight now, and it'll be a lot stronger. When I was taking the original hump out, it just fell apart in my hands. I'm glad I replaced it now.

Thanks for the encouragement everybody, and for following this build. I know there's tons more talk than work in this thread, but you guys keep me going. Just when I think of being lazy and taking a break from the garage I think "no, I've gotta show my progress on my build thread." Thanks for pushing me everyone.

Steve, I saw that speedo extension somewhere. I think I last saw it in the cab. The girlfriend just left to hang with her friends for a few hours so if you need any help today text me

Thanks Eric. I won't be working on it today. I thought I had remembered seeing it in the cab too, but it's not there now. I'll look around tomorrow. Thanks.

looks good man, your hours collar looks a little rusted out? is it just the pic ? that is a major part of your frames support. maybe think about building a new one.

Steve, its looking good, the tunnel looks great hot are you gonna finish it? and are you gonna have enuff room to mount your seats? I think my next next project will be a little more extreme so Im watchin and learnin.

it's just surface rust. I'm pretty sure it'll be fine. I thought about building a new one, but it won't have the clearance I need without being so extreme. The body will be tied into the exo, so I'll rely on the exo for frame rigidity.

Thanks man. I'm starting to worry about mounting my seats. My seats are a lot wider than most, they're out of a celica. I should know by tues or wed if they're going to work. If not, it'll be time for some narrower seats.

I can't decide if I'm just going to paint the tunnel and put some fake dynamat down, or if I'm going to herculine it.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to use some of this stuff that Cheston mentioned. It can't hurt, and maybe i can herculine over it, we'll see.

I don't think most rigs would be worth all the effort of a flat belly, but yours definitely would James. If I had to do it again, I'd probably still do it, but it's a ton of work. Since I swapped trannies and went to duals, and made my own crossmember, it wasn't much more work. Building the tunnel is sure time consuming though, but I think it'll turn out well.

I was curious about the seat bcuz i wasnt sure if you were just runnin a doubler or if you were addin a third box and couldnt remember. one of our customers from SLC is runnin three tcases(i think thats wat it was) and she hadnt figured out what to do for a passenger seat bcuz there was not room for it.

James if i lived in Moab id never go to work! and probly be divorced and homeless, all id want to do is wheel all the time. lol
