Steve's 81 Toyota "angelo" build

I'm going to need a couple guys to help me get the bed on and off a few more times. If any of you locals don't have anything better to do today, come on over and help me lift the bed off a few more times. It'll only take an hour tops.

thanks. It's coming together, but not quickly enough. I need to get the bed mounted tonight, but I need another two guys to help lift it off and on. I'll see if I can scrounge up a few neighborhood kids.

I'm going to bob as much as possible. I hate the look of a bed that long on it. It totally tames the beast, and makes it look ten times taller.

However, I've never bobbed a truck before, so it'll be a few weeks and lots of reading on Pirate (mainly to figure out how much to bob) before it happens.

I can't wait to get the rear springs settled in.

Thanks Nick. I love first gens. They're tons more work to build equal to a 2nd gen, but they're just so cool. I hope I can keep this body in good shape, I don't want to just turn it into a buggy.

We did meet [albeit briefly] in Moab at the bbq this year, but it was just for a minute, and for me to buy a few raffle tickets. I still think you're a legend, and your 4-seater build is proving that point. Thanks again for the kind words.

It's gotta be "street legal" enough for me to drive it to orem and back on Wed, so I've still got a TON to do.

I'm heading out the garage to seal the seams on the interior and to cut off the bed bracketry to make new brackets tomorrow.
 
Got a little more done before calling it a night.

I cut off 3 of the 6 bed mounts on the frame.

Got the front shocks installed (I haven't added the gussets yet)

Sealed the front fender tub from the outside.

Applied 1 coat of herculiner to the firewall.

That should keep rust and salt out of my new panels.
 
Here's my checklist for tonight:

- get more nuts for the gas tank mount
- weld & paint tank bracket spacer
- weld up a spot in the rear frame.
- Herculine front inner fenders (second coat)
- install rear shocks


Legal issues to get done tonight
- attach the bed
- add rear fenders
- add mud flaps
- install tail lights
- get front turn signals working
- add doors (or at least mirrors)
- attach driver's seatbelt

Got most of the legal stuff done, but not all. It started to pour, so I had to throw a glad bag over the seat and call it a night (unfortunately I hadn't installed the doors yet).

it's a bit wider than I had hoped. Law enforcement won't like me very much.

But at least I got the fenders, bed, and tail lights on. No front turn signals, I just hope I don't see a cop on the way to the shop tomorrow. I didn't have the time I needed to get the last things buttoned up. No mud flaps, no doors (or mirrors, but I'll get up early to get something worked out there.) No rear shocks, no exhaust. I'll just cross my fingers.

Thanks everyone for their help tonight. My drummer came over and really made it happen tonight.
