Steve to be honest i wouldnt trust six states they are getting more and more expensive and crappier service, at least up here in ogden, i have set up both my front and rear gears as well as installed my lockright, including removing the pinion and bearings, i can help you and waynehartwig on here can get you a aussie cheaper than 300 just pm him and ask, your truck is worth it but you will have just as hard of a time selling it becasue the market is soft for this kind of rig. Listen i work at a 4X4 shop in salt lake and i can do all the gears for you for free, and i might be able to get the gears cheaper, call me today and ill see what we can do, ill pm my number

That is a brash statement with a weak qualifier at the end. Be careful who you're slamming. Six States in Orem still rocks and those guys know what they're doing.

I have put in a lunch box locker by myself, but have never attempted to set up my own gears or install a real locker, even though I've helped a dozen or so times. I know it's not rocket science, but I'd rather have someone who knows what they're doing handle it.

x2. Kevin is the man. He does a GREAT job on gears, and their driveline guy is great! I've only ever gone to Orem's sixstates. I've known too many people with poorly setup gears to want to do it myself. I'd love to learn to save myself money, but I don't trust myself on something like that.

Sparticus, thanks for the heads up, I didn't even think to ask some of the guys on here if they're dealers.

Kevin or Kent, (Brothers) have been doing this for decades. They know their stuff. Jason is the drive line guy in Orem. Always treated me right. Hell, when Kevin or Kent bleed 90 weight. They just cut a finger and out it runs.

Steve, I'm starting a "fund Steve's 5.29's" fundraiser so we can get some in and you don't have to sell it!! YOU CAN'T!! clean built 1st gen's are the shizzzz!

Ill kick in :)

Dont feel bad about the ADHD stuff, Im sure most of the guys on this forum have some ADD in one form or another. Thats where all of the brilliant engineering & creativity come from.
For me the main thing is understanding my strengths & weaknesses, & trying to have as much ballance as possible, (I struggle w/ballance)
My family is my #1 priority & I try to ballance some of my wants & needs around them. (It sounds like this is the area that you are thinking of)
A few years back I almost sold my rig, so that I would be more commited to my family. I realized If I sold my rig, I would find something else to build (thats just who I am) I realized that I needed more ballance.
Im sure youl get it figured out, It sounds like your way ahead of where I was, when I was starting my family.

I will say this rock crawling has become some thing that my son loves almost as much as I do. I think it is something that he & I will enjoy for many years to come.

haha, I believe it. They're so great to work with. I've never had a problem with anything they've done. Their driveline guy is great too. They're all a little socially awkward, but great people that know their stuff.

I've gotta say, I'm super stoked to have the sliders done. They're always the first thing I do to a vehicle, but in this case they're the last. The doors shut a lot more solid, the truck feels more solid, and I don't have to worry about not having front body mounts now because the entire rocker panel is now a body mount.

It's definitely wheelable now. I'm excited to take it up wayne's world.

Anyone out there have a bender that'll bend 1.75" .250 wall hrew? I'd like to add to my sliders a bit, and I want my sliders to be .250 wall (or .188 wall at the min).

I'm building one.. It should be done in a couple weeks once I get the die bought.

I've got die for 1.75 that I might sell you. Did you use a drill press or a mill? That the exact one I am planning on building. But once my '81 sells, I may not need a bender anymore.

this is what you need
SSPX0182.jpg

I know its my dads truck... but still steve

Yeah, I need a dad with a nice tow rig and trailer :D that would solve all my problems though.

A tow rig/trailer is not in my future. No way, no how. In order to make a tow rig happen this is what I'd have to do:

1) pour a cement pad on the side of my house ($1500)
2) Buy a trailer ($1000)
3) sell my tacoma and buy a tow rig (tried, and I couldn't get what I needed out of it)
4) maintain and register tow rig and trailer (not too spendy, but it sure adds up)
5) driving the tow rig as my daily driver/grocery getter - YUCK

I've gone over it over and over again in my mind, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon, and it'll put me in too big of a hole financially. I agree though, a tow rig and trailer would be a blast.

Hence my need to sell the '81. I've got my eye on a local miata that I'd like to snag for my daily driver, then dd/wheel the taco. The taco isn't nearly as capable as this '81, but I can still get out and enjoy the outdoors, have fun, and get home cheaply. Plus it's super fun and reliable and great in the snow. I was crazy to even think of selling it, let alone at $11k.

So spread the word everyone, I'd like to sell this truck asap. Will I regret it? Hard to tell. When I'm down in Moab, yes I'll definitely wish I still had it. But I think it'll help me achieve that balance I'm looking for.

I spend $30 a month for a place to keep my trailer, and the cost doest change if I leave a two rig with it.

That would seriously cut the initial $1500 for concrete out of the picture.

Thats what I was thinking. But I don't know the cost of renting and didn't want to give false costs.
