That looks really good. Will it be all ready by next weekend for snakes?

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

I don't think it'll be ready by Saturday. I need a break from working on it and I still have a lot of loose ends to tie up. I think id be rushing it if I tried to be done by Friday night.

I also need to find a good alignment shop that can make sure everything is adjusted right, and The axles are centered and parallel to each other.

That's impressive! I just pulled my project into the garage today, wish I had the tools and motivation like you do. Keep up the good work!

THanks. I hate not having a rig to wheel, so that's probably where my motivation comes from.

As much as I like wrenching, id much rather be wheeling, so that helps me get it done faster too.

That thing looks tall, bet the ride may be a bit on the stiff side as well...Maybe not though. My old 4dr I run QA1 #150's at all 4,talk about a cream puff.

Cant wait to see a pic with the wheel's and tire's on.

I highly doubt it's going to be stiff. Without shocks it's SUPER soft. Scary soft in fact. but that's to be expected.

Yeah, it's a little taller than I'd like, so hopefully it settles a bit.

since the front sits so much higher than the rear right now, I'm thinking of swaping the front coils for 14" 225 lb coils to even the ride out and lower it a bit. I'll probably move the 200 lb coils to the rear.

but steve they havent settled yet and they will settle about a inch and a half most likley , is the front really that much higher?

yes, the front is really 2" higher. Everyone I know with the kit is running more spacers in the back than the front. Plus it seems weird to me that the front would be a softer rate than the back, since there's a lot more weight in the front than the back.

I'll at least drive it down the street a little. to see how it rides.

I see 2 inches might be to much but the front has alot more weight and might settle more than usual but its hard to tell. But if it settles 1 to 1 1/2 inches i would just throw a custom 1/2 inch spacer in but i agree see how it rides first with the softer rate, remember everyone loves the RUF with toyotas because of the softer rate that makes them so flexy

sounds good to me. feel free to copy my setup, I know I've copied a lot of other people in the past. Just remember that what I like may not be what you like. Sean from Low Range likes his tracker to be tall. I like mine lower.

I like minimum height. I ran 37's on a CJ with only 4" of suspension and 1 inch of body. It gives you better off camber confidence and also doesn't suck as much fuel.

As I see it, the problem with the stock setup for the TrailSlayer is that Brent intentionally wants it low, and sacrifices up travel by using the DT shocks as limiters. When you are on rough or washboard roads, you are constantly hitting the shock limits. Perhaps the best solution would be to put active bumpstops on and run a stock spring rate???

Here's what I've learned (as with everything I say, I could be wrong)
- brent originally used 12" springs - 175 lbs in front and 160 lbs in rear.
- then we went to 14" springs - 175 lbs all around
- now it looks like he'll evaluate your uses and make a decision based on your driving style/wants.

Since brent's setup is constantly changing, you have to take into account when the comments were said to see which coils were being run. I think originally the 12" coils were too low, and they'd hit the bumps too often.

Here are my two buddies and their setups (I hope they don't mind me posting pics of their rigs):

Manny
Stage 1:
F - 12" springs at 175 lbs
R - 12" springs at 160 lbs

he was bottoming out more than he wanted.

Stage 2: --> 33's
F - 12" springs at 175 lbs plus a 1" spacer
R - 12" springs at 160 lbs plus 2" of spacers
He said that made it ride tons better, and he said he really liked that setup for33's, even for bajaing down fire roads at 50 mph.

Stage 3: - 35" tires
F - 14" king springs at 250 lbs
R - 16" coils at 200 lbs
He likes this setup for 35's
Manny%202.jpg

manny%203.jpg

Sean from low range
Stage 1:
F - 14" coils at 175 lbs
R - 14" coils at 175 lbs plus some spacers (not sure how many)
Sean%20stage%201.JPG

Stage 2: Sean wants his rig taller than stock.
F - 16" springs at 250 lbs
R - 16" springs at 200 lbs with 2" of spacers
Sean%20stage%202.JPG

Sean%20stag%202a.JPG

from Sean's build thread:

To do it over again I might have used 18-200 in the rear. I currently have 2-1" spacers bellow each spring to get it leveled out. No spacers in the front. I still might swap out in the future.

The 250 coil is a bit bigger diameter so it did take some grinding to get it in the top coil pocket for the Slayer kit.

His rig is taller than I'd like mine to be.

Mine
Stage 1
F- 16" coils at 200 lbs
R - 16" coils at 250 lbs

It sits about 2" higher in front. Front is way softer than the rear. I think I'd like to move to 14" 225 lb coils up front to level it out.

the consensus seems to be that the rear needs to be 1-2" higher than the front coils to level it out.

I got an update from brent:

We normally provide the kit with 14" coils. However due to the requests indicated in your initial emails we felt 16"'s would better meet your needs. We mocked up the black one on our web page just for this. It has a Warn 9500 winch, bumpers, and nerf bars. Yes it sat high in front until we pounded it. But now we are very happy with it. I woould definitely wait to make any changes.

Changing the ride height will mostly affect the steering wheel position.
