Street-legal buggys - It Passed!

Is it best to go to a normal auto inspection place like Big O, or do you go to an atv shop and does anyone know if the headlights need to be DOT stamped?

Headlamps. As long as they work. DOT. Not sure

Any shop can do it.

Just get the list checked off at home first and your good.

Horn
Blinkers
Brake lights
Marker lights
Headlights
Reflector at rear bumper
Side mirrors

I would like to thank Moab Friends-For-Wheelin for all the hard work! My buggy is street legal now.

What did you end up doing for headlights?

I picked up some 8" H4 dot lights from KC for $124 each on amazon. They work very well but I would have liked to of found something smaller.

For the marking lights and turn signals I used Maxxima 3/4 led lights from Six States.

The rear has a few different lights but the best thing I found was a motorcycle license plate frame, which has running, brake, left right turn, and plate illumination.

I still am having no luck with insurance
not that you want to go through a broker or not, but my cousin works for James Bansky Insurance in Draper. I talked to him about this new law and wanted to see if my current insurance company would insure it, he said it wouldn't since they don't insure ATV and such, but he has companies that he works with that he could get me insurance for my blazer if registered as a full size ATV. I can give you his number if you would like.

I still am having no luck with insurance

My insurance company didn't throw up any red flags, it is listed under a custom / unspecified ATV. I explained to the agent that I would probably drive at least 100 miles a year on the road and the agent just said ok.

Sure who? I have called a bunch and my agent has looked into a bunch and we have found nothing. Well found one it was like $15,000 a year.

Reviving this thread as my ohv sticker is up for renewal and I am still debating on going the street legal atv route. Insurance is still what hinders me. My current agent is looking but not having much luck. For those that have actually done this, anyone mind sharing a ballpark on what their premium is? And is that liab only or more coverage?

Brandon, talk to Beau. He said he knows someone through Farmers that his neighbor went through. Not sure the details on coverage but he said it was ~$150/year.....worth looking into.

Every agent that I have talked to and that my agent has talked to have not found anybody or any company that will insure a ATV or full size ATV for the street. He, as in my agent recommended just insuring it normally. Then tell if there is an issue, so play dumb. ;)

I actually can't do that since I am already registered ohv. And I don't trust insurance companies enough to actually pay a claim if I ever needed if what I had wasn't explicitly what was listed in my policy.
