For those of you that did not already know... This was not a well-kept secret:

SuperCrawl III at Rocky Mountain Raceway

UROC is proud to announce SuperCrawl III will be held at Rocky Mountain Raceway in Salt Lake City Utah. Rocky Mountain Raceway (RMR) is also home to NASCAR Oval Races as well as NHRA Drag Racing and is now the home of the first, permanent, man-made UROC rockcrawling course! With the crowd draw from a 2 million plus population, SuperCrawl III promises to be not only the biggest competition to date, but a milestone in rockcrawling history.

Very cool. I'm glad the rumors are true. I'll be very interested to see how the course will hold up to the rollovers. Can't wait.

"This will be a three day event with Tech being (October) 14th and actually competition being the three days following which would be the 15th-17th. I know those of you who have finished competition out in the East are wondering who exactly gets to go and the exact amount of teams going will be so here's the numbers as decided by the office.

Extreme West
Modified 10
Super Modified 20
Extreme East
Modified 10
Super Modified 20
Sportsman Series
Modified 10
Super Modified 20
Pro National
Modified 7
Super Modified 20
Wild Card 15"

I think the pro numbers are wrong. If I had to guess it should have been 14 Mod and 20 Super Mod.

Can't say I am a fan of the idea...

Remember the main drawbacks of UROC we discussed Hickey??? Now imagine it tenfold, as every kid in his moms SUV is going to try and pounce it up every hill (legal or not) in sight...

i don't think its the northwest end. that would put the track in the middle of the freeway, although that is what it seems like some days. curb crawlin.

As much as I hate the idea, I think this is the way the sport has to go, in order to get the spectators/$$$$ for it to continue the way it is. The money being spent on rigs is not going to be supported by sponsors when the only exposure they have is to a few thousand spectators in the middle of no where....

I am curious to see if the courses can be built to withstand a comp and be interesting enough for the fans and drivers!!

I have many concerns too, like Kurt said, it will get a lot of kids out there with mommys explorer! I am also afraid if comps go that direction, it will end up being like the Monster trucks, 90% show and 10% comp.

It should be interesting to say the least!!!!

OK I don't get it .........how exactly are they going to build "a pile of rocks" ?

EZ

I don't think the courses will last long if they just use a pile of rocks. Seems like they would role around alot? After someone ran the course they would have to bring the backhoe in a put it back together.

That's what I was thinking, besides how do you build the vertical component? I mean the "pile" would have to be 50 feet high to compare with many of the courses they have been using. So are they going to concrete in all the rocks? Bring in 200 ton slabs of sandstone? I hope they are looking for a huge excavation company to be their next sponsor

It would be fun if it was like a skatepark sizeX20 with cemented in bolders rather than smooth surfaces :D
That would take $$$$ and TIME, but I'd play on it!!

anyone that attended the crawl that skys extreme put on knows that it is possible to pull off...but nearly impossible to make as fun as the real thing...

I compare manmade course rockcrawling to....umm to put it bluntly....MASTURBATION. You still get the same net effect without having as much fun.
