Title says it all.
Graduation is just 2 months away, and it's time for the wife and I to start deciding where we want to live when we move back to Utah.

I'll be working out of downtown SLC, and don't want more than a 30 minute drive (I'll accept a 45 minute trip via Trax, b/c I can work on the train, and bill clients for the ride!!!).

We'd love to hear about your schools
what you like about your neighborhood
what you dislike
crime rates (violent crime, thefts, etc . . .)
average home values
average age of homes in your neighborhood
average age of people in your neighborhood
size of families in your neighborhood (young families, old families . . .)
roads leading to your neighborhood (too narrow, too congested, good shape . . . ?)
And anything else you want to talk about

Thanks

Smog sucks

traffic sucks, high crime ,hell you can't even go to the mall any more. There are more Illegals here than any whrere else in the country. Damn I can't think of any GOOD reasons. I think I need to move.

I live in Herriman (30 mins from downtown) and work almost downtown ( 960 so. main). Herriman is a nice quite place tucked away in the southwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley. When it rains you can smell sagebrush, higher elevation than most of valley on the west side. Lots of homes for sale in my neighbor also. Most families have 2.5 kids, lots of nice parks and low crime rate. A new middle school that is rated as the most modernized. Every once in a while you hear a coyote not gunfire like some of the other cities.

Lets see
30 minutes exactly to where I work. (Sugarhouse)
Brand new Elementary about 4 blocks away.
New High school being built 2 blocks away.
Average age of homes is about 4 years old.
Very low crime.
Parks and green space all over the place.
Private lake.
18 hole GC.
Very young families in the neighborhood, although there are a few retirees.

What I hate. Driving to Tooele for groceries.

My neighbor is selling their house if your interested.;) Just went on the market yesterday.

Sugarhouse is a great place to settle in...
*It's about 10 minutes from downtown
*Lots of families with lots of kids(mormons-_- );)
*I'd say property value is $400K and up... depending on certain small areas within Sugarhouse/Foothill you could be much more than that.
*Age of homes, majority i'd say 20-40, some newer, some older... i love the fact that it's a very old neighborhood for the huge trees everywhere. there's always shade.. and there's plenty of parks around as well.
*Roads are in excelent shape, and they are plenty wide for a parked car on the road with traffic(generally speaking of course)
*Crime isn't too too bad... we have random car vandalizers erery now nad then, but if you park in a driveway/garage you'd be fine... they go for cars on the street. I heard a report the other night that Utah has dropped the number of alcohol related accidents durastically, making Utah one of the lowest in the nation.

I live 5 minutes from down town. It's ghetto, but the poor don't rob from the poor--they go to the rich neighborhoods to rob them. New neighborhood. Homes from 200-250k.

That is Lehi, those homes FYI go from 350K-700K+, rediculous!

I also live in Lehi in the middle of town, 1 year old home, good schools, low crime, traffic is crazy sometimes because of Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain residents that are required to drive through Lehi to get to their homes/cities. But all in all I like living in Lehi.

That's the main reason I recomend he avoid Saratoga springs if he wants a half hour drive... :ugh: If you look in Lehi just make sure you live somewhere you don't have to get on main street. :D

I used to enjoy living in Lehi :( Back when the population was 4k Now there's about that many people on main street at any given time.

I live in Stansbury Park, so mine is similar to SkylineRider's with a few exceptions:
About half an hour from my house to the Airport. I suspect about 35 to downtown.
2 Good Elementary schools.
New High school being built close-by.
Average age of homes in my neighborhood is about 10 years old.
Very low crime.
Parks and green space all over the place.
Private lake.
18 hole GC.
I live around the lake in a more mature neighborhood. Nice mix of young families, middle age families, and older folks.
Homes in the area are going for 200-450k. It seems crazy - glad I bought 8 years ago.

What I like best is people actually get out and walk or ride bikes or golf carts around the neighborhood. Wave or stop and talk, etc. Some places we've lived before you'd be lucky to get your next door neighbors to talk to you.

For home values, the south end of the valley (South Jordan, Riverton, Heriman, Draper, etc) is going nuts. My house that I'm building, which as you can see only has a hole at this point, is already going for $30K more than I paid just a couple months ago. I was actually offered a good chunk of change if I'd sell my lot  (no way in the world would I right now). The south end of the valley is all about 30 mins (+/- 10 mins) to the downtown area. I work about 5 mins from downtown and can be to work in about 20 mins depending on when I leave, during rush hour it's 30 mins. Like JeepinJoe said (I believe he's off 13400 south, I'm off 12600 south) it's above the crap you gt when living closer to DT, when it rains it's nice a fresh, overall a good place to live. Also, an additional perk to where I'll be (Riverton) is Utopia (Fiber) will be there in the future.

I live up in centerville it is a really nice city very small town like but growing pretty quickly. the area I am in has large families. The houses in my neighborhood are going from 360000-1,000,000. I love this little neighborhood and dont really want to ever move away from this town. it is only about a 20 minute drive into salt lake in the morning for work.

These go to 11
Location: Murray

Schools: One of the smaller districts. Makes for better schools.

Neighborhood: 1000-2000 sq ft 50's ramblers at $180-$250k. One block over 2000-3000 sq ft 70's ranch style$250-$300. One block over from that 3000-5000 sq ft 80-90's multi-level customs $300-$500k. One block over from that 00's homes 3000-6000 sq ft $400-$750k. One block over from that new development 2500-5000 sq ft homes $900-$1.5.

What you dislike: Nothing really. I live right by the Hospital and the newbie ambulance drivers forget to turn off the sirens sometimes. Thats about it.

Crime rates: Low. Murray has sooooo many cops. Good hell.

Families in your neighborhood. Newly weds and nearly deads. More families over one block, bigger houses.

Roads: Kick ass! You can't be better situated. I am right by the entrance and exit of 215 and 15. 10 min to DT on a bad day. 10 min to Sandy. It's central what more can you say.

Yea, Unimog's neighborhood is quite a bit older than mine He lives next to the Lake. I love that people will actually stop and shoot the breeze with you.

I live in Magna.

High crime
Serious white trash population
Bad tasting water
No freeway access, so long commute times
Poor schools with no extracurricular activities
Property values decreasing year after year, making it a poor investment
...and probably more bad stuff I can't think of off the top of my head.

Definitely, nobody should move to this part of the valley. -_-

or perhaps I'm mistaken?

I've got a friend that just moved out to Erda and really likes the area out there, I think he said he got 5 acres but I don't know how much he paid.
