Were you out this past sunday? Your rig looks familliar. You may have passed by my house.

BOT. I moved to UT a year or so ago and had to look for a place to live. It came down to where I'm at now or a house up in suncrest with a killer view. I'm really glad I chose to live in the sugarhouse/foothill area instead. Homes are smallish/expensive for a family though.

Either way, Homes in Utah are waaaayy overpriced. Everybody at work seems to be buying up north (syracuse) for the best deal but the commute sucks. Homes in UT are almost double the cost of the homes in TX.275-300K in Texas will get you a sweet house in a exclusive gated community with a guard.:-\

Title says it all.
Graduation is just 2 months away, and it's time for the wife and I to start deciding where we want to live when we move back to Utah.

let me know if you need anything hauled back, I should be finishing up in PA myself around midMay, and I would be happy to help you out. :)

We'd love to hear about your schools

Don't know, because we home-school, but the new high school is pretty sweet.

what you like about your neighborhood
It's on the edge of town and full of young families that keep to themselves enough not to be pests, but are friendly enough to deal with.
what you dislikeThe other neighbors that have barking dogs and sh*tty hoodlum kids. Also, being so close to everyone. (I grew up in the middle of miles of forest and fields though....)
crime rates (violent crime, thefts, etc . . .)Bit of minor vandalism, occasional petty thefts. Domestics sometimes.
average home values My wife just comped our house at like 175k, up from I think 128k in '01, theyve been selling around 150-200 I think.
average age of homes in your neighborhoodless than 10years
average age of people in your neighborhoodLooks like everyone's either in their 30's or late 50's. Lots of very young kids.
size of families in your neighborhood (young families, old families . . .)as far as I can tell, 2-3 kids on average
roads leading to your neighborhood (too narrow, too congested, good shape . . . ?)Pretty good, but rush hours can be frustrating going up SR36. Once in town, there are plenty of workarounds to get around town.
And anything else you want to talk about

Thanks

I live in Magna.

High crime
Serious white trash population
Bad tasting water
No freeway access, so long commute times
Poor schools with no extracurricular activities
Property values decreasing year after year, making it a poor investment
...and probably more bad stuff I can't think of off the top of my head.

Definitely, nobody should move to this part of the valley. -_-

or perhaps I'm mistaken?

you forgot it has more regestered sex offenders than any other city in utah:eek:

Stro,

I guess I am #3 from Stansbury. I live on the lake and my house is only 2 years old. Great place for kids. Good Schools. For the most part, awesome neighbors. My street has about a 50/50 mix of Member to Non-Member homes and I wouldnt have it any other way. Housing prices here have been climbing constantly for the last couple of years.

It takes me 20-25 minutes to get to the Airport for my weekly commute to work, and 30-35 to get downtown. Light to no traffic pretty much all the time.

Tooele just broke ground on a million$ county shooting complex just south of Deseret Peak Rec Area.

Tacoma: you may live to regret the offer of hauling stuff back for us! Bwahahaha.
I really appreciate the offer. What are you able to haul, and what are your rates?

Yeah, what's up with that anyways?
 you guys are on the good well too  in the older parts of Magna the water is even worse. We just got used to always having bottled water around.

I loved it in Magna, everything was fairly close, it was always quiet, most the people were pretty nice (besides most of them are white trash), and you get more house for the money out there.

Yeah, we drink uber filtered and bottled water. Can't stand the taste.

"Must be something in the water" is a phrase I refer to often out here.

My ex grew up in Magna and it's amazing how many people she knows from childhood that have had or currently have very serious health problems (she has cancer, other friends with similar rare cancer, friends with lupus etc). too many for it to be a coincidence I think.

Okay . . . so Magna is off the list.

Check.

It couldn't have anything to do with all the tailings could it?

meh, I have family that has lived in Magna their whole lives...I also know a ton of people that have lived in Magna their whole lives and I can't think of a single person that has had cancer that lives or lived out there. I think it's just a coincidence. Magna water does publish their tests, and many other companies have tested their water as well, there is lots of minerals in the water (the funny taste) but nothing harmful. For the first couple years I lived there you'd have people coming door to door atleast once or twice a year trying to sell you water softners and filters, they'd all have the test results they'd give you.

I can haul whatever will fit around a Dana 60, unless you've got a trailer, and then I can haul that too. :D Just help w/gas, like offset the decrease in mileage I guess. *shrug*

STOP THE HIJACKING!!!

No hijack intended, just reverse everything I said and you'll have my opinion. :) I've had one crime experience here in Magna in the 8 years I've been here...had far more when I lived in Holladay. My parent's house (in Holladay) always had a water filter to make the quality acceptable, I haven't had to worry about that here. I don't know too much about the schools since my kids are too young, but my wife went to Cyprus High and seems reasonably smart?

Oh, and freeway access rocks. I'm 2 minutes from 201, and that makes it only about a 15 minute drive to downtown, even though it's most of the way across the valley.

My property value has gone up ~$100K in the 5 years I've been in this house. I'm not planning on moving anytime soon, but it's comforting to know I'll have a bunch of equity for free. :D
