1800 is a good number. especially if ya have low gears in the case or a atlas. The clutch pack compressor is worth it's weight in gold. Cleanliness and vaseline is your friend

Well the TCI converter comes in 1200 and 2000 in the application I'm looking at. I would rather have a 1800 but will have to settle with a 2000. I run a SM465, D300 4:1, and 4:56 gears. I think I will be fine...

What do you clean these parts with? Just a plain clean rag or is there a solvent? Is the vaseline just for the seals?

have you searched for reviews and feedback on teh TCI converter you are considering? I know a lot of guys avoid TCI cause they tend to fall apart. I used a TCI and was very happy with it (other than I wanted a higher stall) but I thought I would give ya a heads up. ;) (IMO, the 1800-2000 would be an ideal range for our needs)

Well, I just tried to find some reviews and couldn;t find anything...I just remember right after I bought my TCI I read a ton of stuff that said to avoid them and that they were over priced POS's. Mine was only $80 so I figured I would run it and see what happened. In my search I found a TON of good about them so maybe I just noticed the bad things since I had just bought one

I still think the best TCs would be the Art Carr I posted a link to earlier in the thread, some good (specific) features have been added to them for crawling.

TCI sucks... I got screwed out of a brand new $600 converter that came apart right after install. TCI wouldn't warrenty it because it was installed by me, not a 'shop'. I had a local tranny shop cut it apart and they found that one of the parts inside was poorly brazed, causing the converter to self destruct.

This was when I was working for Super Shops and obviously we did alot of sales for TCI. They were total dicks about the whole deal, wouldn't even offer to help me out in any way. I've been anti-TCI since then.

I'd recommend a B&M converter. ;)

Yes TCI sucks, I had major problems years ago with a GTO, we ran TCI tranny's couldn't keep them together.. There is a Torque converter shop here in Salt lake that does a real nice job for cheap "will make what ever you want". I guess you have to be a vender to buy from them though... Let me do some checkin and I'll get the number..

I'm gonna go against the PCE's and recommend going as high a stall speed as you can get. My converter is simply labeled "high stall", and was supposed to be set up for a drag car. It was also for a TH350, but the converter is the same for the TH400. (which I'm using it in) I'm sorta assuming it's something like 2600-ish....either way, I LOVE it. Couldn't ask for better.

My last buggy with the TH350, I ended up with a 2400 stall and wanted more. (but couldn't get one without spending big bucks) That 4.3 obviously wouldn't wind up against the converter as well as my LT1, so I might even have a lower stall right now and don't know it.

Oh, and Art Carr makes some pretty sweet converters. Dunno about cost though....you could talk to Brad Lovell about 'em, he's a dealer now.
