I just read somewhere that ford has created a diesel hybrid but they can't afford to sell it in the US because the market stats tells them that nobody will buy it. :-\

Article about Ford's Fiesta (diesel), which gets 65 mpg, but is only sold in Europe.

Wow... wonder when we'll have Windows Diesel fuel! That's pretty cool, they must have done lots of research and decided it was a valuable asset. I was thinking about investing into Solazyme, but I hear you need $$ to do that. :-\
Windows brand diesel fuel  You know you are guaranteed to crash if you run that.

Too bad that video didn't make a single mention of cost. That must mean it's way beyond the realm of economical.

My Biogas mad scientist guy was just telling me that we will see vehicles running on Biogas within a couple of years. He said the technology is there, just not cost effective enough yet.

Here is a pic of some pig farts I took a couple mornings ago at my plant:D

Some interesting news on the diesel powered cars front...

Mazda is releasing a Mazda 6 and a CX-5 with a 2.2l diesel, making 173 HP and 310 ft/lbs! Interesting enough, Mazda dropped the compression ratio in this new diesel to a very low 14:1 as a way to reduce emissions without a decrease in power. The car doesn't require the Urea additive that all other modern diesels require.

Also Chevy is stepping into the diesel powered car market with a Chevy Cruise powered by a 2l diesel engine, making 148 HP and 258 ft/lbs, with an 'overboost' feature that bumps the torque up to 280 ft/lbs for 10 seconds at a time.

Pretty interesting stuff! My TDI Jetta is getting old... will need another daily driver at some point.

I don't understand why we aren't running CNG or better yet, refining it to LNG. This stuff is locally produced, is way cleaner to burn, is well over 100 octane and runs in the cars we all drive right now. It just pisses me off to think that in SLC and Utah county we just need 50 to 100 filling stations and a good share of the population could drive everywhere they go on a normal basis. Lots of people already have commuter cars, why is it so hard to imagine those cars running on CNG or LNG.

There are several kits to inject CNG with Diesel and get in the 30 mpg range. There is no reasonable explanation to why we haven't switched yet, other than politics.

The LNG is really where it's at. The tanks are comparable to gasoline.

I have a couple friends who cruise around CNG converted vehicles. I like the idea quite a bit.

What is LNG? (figuring I'll google it but it would be good to have a reference here. :D)
Edit: Liquified instead of compressed. Got it.

Without googling it, I would guess liquified natural gas.
